Stray

Everyone wondering if the pack reunites at the end ... [SPOILERS]
... it does, as the cat leaves the city almost at the same spot the game started.

Someone did the math:

Thank you for this Video, clearing up the ending for me!

Nice. It would be a bummer to get back home only to find it desolated and the pack is gone tho.

Thank you so much for this because, frankly, the ending annoyed the hell out of me that we had no closure on that topic of whether the cats meet back up or not.

I loved this game but my gosh I was like "That's it?!" when he just walked away at the end.

The video is very well done, but it feels like another fan like us trying to cope with the ending's blatant shortfall in resolving this core plotpoint. All it would have taken is for the cat to meow at the top, heard three mews off in the distance to the right, then walk off to find them.

I sincerely hope the devs fix the ending, it's like a download stuck at 99%, it's so close to perfect, but that just makes it worse.

I mean, going by how he figured it out it seems more than just coping, especially combined with the fact that Stray did go right where his cats should be. Seems pretty rock solid all things considered

It is quite possible that they left the ending open like this so that there can be a sequel, perhaps one that deals with Stray looking for his family or potentially looking for his family while also doing something else.

The other cats don't matter. It does not matter if he found the other cats, they have absolutely nothing to do with the over arcing story, they were just a vehicle for the cat to fall in the hole. Whether he finds them again is completely unimportant. It's neat that the guy did the math on this and all that, but seriously, none of you should care.

I find it so sad that people NEED to have a happy ending in games. They cant just enjoy someone else's story, they need their ending.
The other cats would have moved on shortly after our cat fell into the city. Not all stories need a perfect happy ending. This one was good.

It is the overarching plot point of the whole story. The entire premise of the cat's adventure through the city is to get out of the city to find his family. The first chapter sets up the cat's world, and the fall is the inciting incident, the call to adventure so to speak. But the goal of the cat is always to get back outside the wall, it's why the cat's journey revolves around helping the outsiders to get him back outside.

Saying the plot point that guides the cat's entire journey doesn't matter, is like saying that it doesn't matter what Frodo does with the ring, since Gonder beat the orcs! Who cares about the stupid ring from the beginning of the story?

No it isn't. The whole plot revolves around the robots and the city. The cat is just there to experience it all. Whether or not he gets to the other cats is unimportant to anything that happens within the game. The first chapter puts the cat into the city and serves no other purpose. The cats are literally there to just show you the mechanics and how the game works. They are not important to anything outside of that.

Correct.

It's called "motive for the hero's journey" in storytelling. The content of the story to reach the hero's goal is called "plot". Surprisingly a lot of people do not know the difference (often sometimes even not the ones writing a story).
