In the early game, why deal with all the fast food restaurant nonsense when the gift shop is a cash cow without all the overhead and hassle?

Fast Food can also make good money once set up properly, but it definitely has a different flow than gift shop. And as you pondered - that's basically the point! Once you figure out how to make both Gift Shop and Fast Food work with their similarities and differences, then you should be able to extrapolate that to any of the other retail stores!

Can I ask how you made the gift shop into a cash cow? Because I'm having the exact opposite. My fast food is making so much cash, but the gift shop is preventing me from passing the next quest. "Generate a daily profit of $500 per business." My fast food is well over $800, but the gift shop barely breaks $300. I can't see how I can get it over $500 unless I really jack up the gift prices.

My gift shop building capacity is only 15 (the one the tutorial made me buy) and I'm easily maxing that, so I'm not too sure how I can push my sales over $500 a day unless I move it locations... but I don't think the tutorial wants me to do something like that so wtf am I supposed to do?

First of all, it's not really a tutorial. Yes, it shows you the different parts of the game, but not in a "you have done X, the next step is Y" kind, but more in a "you have done X, *now keep playing and you can try Y when you are ready for the next bigger step".

To really make money you have to sell as much as you can. Well... of course....
So not only cheap gift but also expensive ones (that alone should be enough for the $500 quest). You can sell flowers in a gift shop too.

Make sure that your staff has a high level, check your opening times, keep your shop clean and spent money for the walls and floors.

Thanks for the reply. I actually found the Expensive Gifts about 20 minutes after making that post and was dropping back in here to mention it, lol. Thanks for the other tips too, I'll keep them in mind :)

the most important thing for making a profit, is generally traffic.
