There is a business type not talked about that's OP: General store
I noticed that for self serving customers, they can grab from whatever. I tested this first with a wine shelf in a gift shop, and the wine sold surprisingly. Unsure if this is a bug, or how the game is intended. The big buildings, i.e. the buildings that can hold 75 people in Midtown, are perfect for a department store. I tested the theory further and made a full out department store with eight types of every shelf and item.

That single store made $150,000 a day on a normal day, $220,000 on the weekends. Though you have to set it up as one of the store-types, what you sell inside the store doesn't matter. Of course you need a warehouse and import contracts for this to be feasible due to how much is sold per day (about 3000 cigars, 2000 bottles of wine, and 800 frozen food per day were my biggest selling items).

I will warn you, it's definitely game breaking and will give you more money than you know what to do with.

It's intended. Whatever your primary items are will sell better than the "extra" items, but you can sell any retail in any store.

Definitely a great way to make extra money, like you said, and it really helps fill out those larger stores!

I think almost the whole game is gamebreaking. Like yes, you make... let's just say alot with your general store, but you also make more than enough with clothing, lawyer, cafe (in the right districts)... and good money with all other shops.
In the time I need to setup one new business I make enough money to set up the next three.

edit: Don't get me wrong. I like the game so far, but the balancing needs some work.

You're 100% right! And that's going to be a big part of EA 0.2 "Product Balancing: expensive gifts, cheap jewelry, expensive jewelry, all clothing"

Yea I just made a liquor store.. 50 traffic, 0 competition in mid town with 75 cap. I also sell cheap gifts, flowers and jewelry and it makes 125k-150k pretty freaking nuts to be honest. Totally worth the setup.. inventory has been a pain to control but I finally figured it out I think. It makes more than 3 of my other businesses combined.

Not to mention to buy a building costs millions and the game is all about becoming extremely wealthy
