[Guide & Tips] A Practical Guide to Maximize your Profits
Hey everyone, I thought I would create a practical guide to help those starting out in the game on how to help maximize their time and profits. I am currently on day 200 making around 500k a day

1) Maximize store hours - once you get settled with 2 or 3 businesses it is time to open your stores 7 days a week / 24 hours a day. You will certainly increase your total visits a day. You are already paying rent daily, so do not limit yourself to being open only 8 or 10 hours. The additional hours will be minimal in terms of staffing fees in the overall picture.

2) Human Resources is your friend -- seriously this will save you a TON of time and money. The role of human resources is 2 fold - first they will replace people if they call in sick which is a nice bonus. the better thing is at maximum skill they will passively train up to 25 other employees in their primary skill every single day. No more sending people on $300 a day training seminars! The best part, the human resource officers can passively train each other, I currently have 10 HR reps and it is a blessing!

3) Set routine goals -- Currently my goal is to open 2 new businesses a week. On Monday I take a look at the four districts, see what type of commodity is in demand as well as how many competitiors there are. Find one where a few of the same objects in one store are at 80% or higher demand with no or minimal competition in an area. Once located purchase a location, call the office depots and ikea to get delivers set up, call the employee agency to find 10 customers services and a few cleaners in 1 day and get things moving

4) Review, review, review -- As I mentioned above Monday is the day where I initiate my plan for the week, Sunday is where I review my current shops. I take the time to see how price adjustments from the previous week have impacted my business, ensure everyone has a uniform, ensure marketing is close to 100% as possible. One important thing is traffic, it seems like a 'healthy' graph if checking on Sunday is a V shaped graph, buisness generally declines mid week and then peaks again on the weekend, so if you see a V shape to your business things are looking good....if not check any changes you've made (e.g. price changes) as you may need to revert

5) Gamble, gamble gamble --- Once you have a net worth of 10+ million the casino is certainly worth going to, it will increase your happiness and it is easy to make money. I use the 'doubling' blackjack method where I will double my bet every time I lose. E.g. first bet 10,000, 20,000, 40,000, 80,000, 160,000, 320,000, 640,000, 1,280,000, 2,560,000 etc... any time you win a hand doing it this way you will always win your starting bet (e.g. 10,000 overall) I usually do this with a starting bet of 50,000 and can quickly make a million or so over the course of a night..... be cautious to make sure your bank role is big enough -- I have certainly gotten up to the 2+ million dollar bets, if you can't keep doubling you lose everything

6) Selecting the right business - this question is often asked, what business should I open? And the answer is always... it depends.... what is in demand, what buildings are available, what locations are those buildings in etc... For some context the numbers... My Jewelry store did 1.1 million in profit in the last 7 days, a second jewelry store is around 250-300k a week... My gift shop is around 250k a week, where as my liquor store is doing around 100k a week.. Obviously it depends on the size of the store, foot traffic and location - focus more on selecting 1) In Demand 2) Large Buildings 3) With good foot traffic and regardless of the business it will be profitable

7) Go to the bank --- no not Jensen Capital where the tutorial sends you --- the second bank, it has better investments, particularly the Asia Dynamic Industry investment (-2 to 10% return) which averages an 8% return which is excellent... Any capital you can't invest into new business that week get invested, I typically keep my funds around 1 million and invest the rest

8) Stop driving -- it takes too much time to drive around after the early game, my advice is to just take a taxi everywhere to save yourself IRL time, obviously this is not the case if you are going for a min-max achievement run trying to hit 100million net worth in X amount of time, but for most players the taxi is the way to go

Good tips. Wrong section. This should be in the guide section. As it will just get pushed down. Come on you can do it. Lift yourself up from scrubbing ship floors and write a real guide. AS for cars Point 7: about cars. You don not need them. I can travel very fast just using the subway. Point 6: about what business to open. I just always open liquor stores. The money just pours in. Point 5: Gamble, honestly i spent about 10 minutes on the boat and i was bored and left. Yes you can make money, but what is a million to a rich person. Not much. Point 5 Review Review. This is Beta this game is all going to change. Reviewing Beta is only good until the next update. Point 3 set goals: This is a game not real life I think the goal should be to have fun. I mean after all can you spend it at your local Target. But nice point. In Anno I always set goals. But this is not even close to Anno 1800 in complexity. It is more of a casual who cares game, no pirates or competition to worry about. Point 2. Human Resources. Totally agree. great department. Point 1: Hours open, look I just like one 8 hour shift per store with minimum employees. Do you want to work at 2 AM at a clothing store? In real life you would be all alone.

Not a very good "guide" at all.

Sure. Open up two businesses per week.

Here's a BETTER guide...Open up TWELVE businesses per week!!!!!!

1) Not all retail stores are profitable 24 hours a day. If you do do 24 hour a day you want to make sure you're not over staffing early morning and late night.
The game operates pretty similar to real life... are you going to go shopping for gifts or jewelry at 3 in the morning? Not likely. Do you want food at 3 in the morning? Good possibility.

6) When I start a new warehouse I start it based on the types of retail it's going to supply. So I consider demand before starting the warehouse - say I want to start clothing stores, the warehouse is specifically a clothing warehouse, however my clothing stores usually sell gifts, jewelry and flowers, sometimes wine and cigars to (I aim to get clothing stores in 75 capacity locations so they have a lot of space to add everything). This sort of setup only requires two purchasers. I don't like my warehouses to be to mixed. Like food items (soda can be an exception) have separate warehouses to stock my fast food, coffee, and supermarkets since I supply the 3 different types with some of the same product.

One purchaser for importing paper bags can cover 5 or more warehouses easily. Though now I think having a separate large warehouse to import all your paper bags and that warehouse deliver to all your other warehouses is a better way to go. Could include soda to if you want.

8) When you're setting up a large store relying on deliveries only could take a week to finish setup. A 75 capacity clothing store is 64 clothing racks by itself. Freight truck able to carry 60 items helps a lot in this case (often unable to park them legally so I just accept the fines lol) and then that freight truck ends up in the next available warehouse slot. I do a combination of manual delivery and automated delivery. Speakers - I have a full pallet delivered closest to my apartment so when I go setup a new business I just grab a speaker from the pallet.

Offices work a little better with relying on delivery only since you can get some items from one office supply store and others from another and have different delivery times.

The OP seems more casual, which is fine. 12 is a bit extreme haha. Depending on the size and the store I think one or two days is minimum to setup a store fully. Maybe even three days for some types of 75 capacity stores.

I think it is a nice and welcome guide. Anyone willing to share some knowledge should do so if they feel like. You can choose what to do with it. Thanks op

So far I only get up to 12% on marketing, Ive heard there are other marketing companies? Do you know where I could find them?
Funny when someone tries to help, and people are just rude..

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
