How can i pick up irrigation pipe and other items? is it saved after i sleep?

I've been waiting anxiously to play, and now that I've started, I'm not sure what to do. I created fertilizer and planted and watered crops. The journal has Fertilizer and Crops listed, with a bit of info, but...what now? I walked around the town--it is certainly deserted and barren enough to suggest many years of hardship, I'll give you that. I've played a few days in the game, it has a good potential, can't wait to see the future updates. Right now, I don't think it's worth the money asked for, but I think things will be original in the game (creating new crops, the importance of feeding the population, etc). Keep up the good work!...

On creating a new savefile, going to bed after the introduction, quiting the game and then loading that save, the character is missing (i.e. you see the interior of your house/shed but there is no character). Because the character is missing, you cannot walk outside, steps still are heard. Yes, there's a market, and it appears that the solution is to take items to the market when I want to sell them for cash rather than adding them to the stockpile.
