Fata Deum - The God Sim

Fata Deum - The God Sim

What are you supposed to do to play efficiently?
I'm not sure I understand what I'm doing. The tutorial is a bit annoying and I got bored paying attention to it, I'll take the blame for that and all the comments about my attention span.

But what are you supposed to be doing. I feel like everything is so... slow... and it feels like it has so much busywork.

So here is what I'm doing before I lost interest in playing:

I convert villagers in my first town a little with the "spell" and "repair" some ancient ruins that apparently also convert people.

I do the same thing in the second town and now I have 2-3 towns on the first day under my control. Okay cool. Now there are these little quest that pop up, I do them as well - but I don't really understand why.
So I'm sitting there with 3 towns and the AI has, maybe, his first one.

What's next? I build some shacks in an attempt to increase my population limit(?) and bless it villagers with the heart-spell thingy?
Does it work? I don't know, there is so little feedback I don't really know.

Then my people need wood to build stuff so I gather some (which is really, really, really boring and takes so long and it's tedious... it's just boring as hell) I know I can build a woodcutter but it seems to be doing so very little.
Now since I have 3 towns I basically do this for 3 towns. Should I even have 3 towns? The AI has one... I feel like I'm "overexpanding" or something but what's even the downside of doing it?

Anyway, first night appears and now I can build stuff. I build my two buildings in all 3 towns and gather stuff for the next day so that it actually completes. I do more quests and convert more followers. In 3 towns.. pretty busy already.

So eventually my buildings are completed and I can build two new ones. My first village starts with some buildings, these buildings do some things. I guess there is a farm and then some other building somewhere else but who knows where that is, or what it is, because there is nothing really telling you what you already have and what you should get?

I need stone for some stuff so I build a quarry.
I get 3 quests that ask for 80+ food, so I just summon it in a second and these quests are done. Why do I do quests again?

I don't know - right now this game feels like a whole lot of "I'm doing something but also nothing" to me and blessing/converting people by pressing LMB constantly seems tedious.
Bless here, bless there, apparently they do something faster then, but how do I even get the "feel" of what's fast and what is slow. What one worker provides for and how fast will he do it? Can my people starve?

This may sound dramatic but I've never been so lost in a computer game and I play games for like 28+ years now (way more complex ones as well)
I somehow de- and reinstalled this game 3 times now because I keep thinking that I'm doing something wrong. The second time I tried to pay more attention to the tutorial but it will eventually lose me no matter what. Especially since it prevents me from doing stuff.

Thanks for the feedback! It helps a lot to make the game better! The tutorial part can definetly be improved.

Fulfilling prayer is another way to convert mortals.

If you have the feeling that you are performing to well in comparison to the AI you can also increase the difficulty level of course.

Completely agree with your feedback. Big parts of the game are focused on energy and productivity, but why would I even bother? I need a bit of wood and stone to fill all building slots and then I pretty much need just food and nothing else.
The faith system also provides pretty much no feedback. The tutorial teaches you that you can convert mortals with your normal spells, but it is not obvious when or how that happens. Maybe I am missing something, but I have not found any info on how close (or not) I am to converting another mortal via faith.
Knowledge is another system that is not explained in the demo. I don't even have a clue what schools do.
Iron and gold have no use in the demo I guess?

As it stands I can see the potential in this game but it's definately not there yet. All the mechanics could be interesting but many of them are pointless, badly explained or just tedious (like breeding mortals in all your villages every day).

I haven't played the demo yet but I certainly know how to play it, because I have the know how, even though it's different and inspired by B&W which is my childhood game.

I can do it, but I do inspect things different, but as always, you must choose the path of Good or Evil.

"The tutorial teaches you that you can convert mortals with your normal spells, but it is not obvious when or how that happens."
It is obvious though. If the mortal has a blue aura when selected or casting a convert spell from the hot bar, they worship you, if orange they don't worship any god, and if red they worship an enemy god. It's a bit glitchy though (I think) and you have to hold down while clicking on the moral till the change occurs.

The problem I have with the game is it's lacking a proper UI for resources, forcing you to mouse over the tiny storage crates in each capital to see how many resources each has. that's rather annoying and time consuming in a game that gives you a time limit

Another problem is the prayer system is glitchy and completing a prayer doesn't always mark it as complete, especially the prayers that involve punching someone

Thanks for the feedback! It’s helps a lot to improve the game!

The resources of the current settlement are listed at the settlement overview at the top of the screen.

The punching prayer have a quite informal description what you need to do, sometimes it is just pushing without hurting, sometimes it is hurting sometimes it is killing. We will improve that to make it more clearly.

I am old. I loved black and white, populous, all the way through to From Dust (A VERY UNDERRATED MODERN TITLE).
I don't think I am an idiot, but maybe I have become one.

However, I cant play this game. It doesn't make enough sense to me. The developer seems very active and I am watching this title as I love stuff like this, but again, maybe I am thick, but I have no idea what I am doing - to ME its not intuitive at all.
Ill give it a go later on.
