Multiplayer

I see remote play co-op. Or is this just controlling the pet? Is there a way to do legitimate multiplayer with this game? Can 3-4 people play simultaneously? Even if each person has to buy their own copy?

I only just now noticed that the "local co-op" feature is only two player, and the other person only plays as the pet... I was hoping for something more like Stardew, where the screen splits and four people can play. Or at the very least, all four of us playing on separate machines in the same world.
