How to get an additional space for the first sheep - Large Barn Upgrade 2

I have a question about upgrading the large barn for sheep.
I have Lydia standing in front of the barn, waiting for the upgrade, but I can't upgrade because I need to progress in the story.
At the same time, I can't progress in the story, because Nathan is in front of the cave and needs me to talk to Lydia about the preparations for the expedition... now I'm stuck. How can I upgrade the sheep barn??

I have not been able to locate the sheep at the town registry on the switch, and I'm stuck no longer progressing my story. Is there currently a glitch on the switch console?
