Battle Realms?
I'm a huge fan of RTS games and am interested in this. Based on the video / images the artwork reminds me a lot of Battle Realms. Is the gameplay similar? Battle Realms focused on smaller armies and had heroes. Just curious.

On a side note: I agree w/ one of the other threads in that I hope that eventually they either create a map editor that allows for lots of user-made maps, or introduce computer-generated maps. I've found that many RTSs die b/c of a lack of maps .... people will get bored of the same maps over and over.

I would say its closer to WarCraft 3 meets Age of Mythology not just in terms of the style, but because you have a main hero that levels up as the match progresses and gains new abilities as well as the whole mythological aspect of combat and units.

It really isn't similar at all to Battle Realms.

To be fair, Battle Realms is the game Warcraft 3 copied.

This game is better than Warcraft 3, if you are not super inclined on balance. It is more of a fun over balance experience, but it REALLY hammers in the fun aspect.

WarCraft 3 had a long development cycle beginning in the late 90s and went through different versions, from a more single hero focus to back to the more classic resource management and base building.

I'm not sure how long Battle Realms was in development but the two are very different types of RTS even if adhering to the core gameplay.

Battle Realms main gameplay focus is the combination of units to create new ones.
Thats literally a unique mechanic barely any game ever did again.

No, its not similar.
Theres basically 3 games with that mechanic: Battle Realms, Impossible Creatures and Forged Battalion

Might have forgotten one and theres a few RTS games that allow unit customization (like lets say Dawn of War as you equip weapons to a squad to change its behaviour).

This game is more a mix of Age of Mythology and Warcraft 3.
You have a hero mechanic, you have faith energy you use to cast spells and train mythical creatures and a map with neutral enemies.

+1 for Buntkreuz.

Godsworn is somehow like Age of Empire / Mythology, except there aren't really any "age" to upgrade but there is a temple upgrade which is kind of like an age.

Also, ressources are infinite, it's not a bad thing, you can't raze a forest, as in "age of shadow" or similar games where you place your ressource buildings next to a ressource and it will start producing (if there are workers) and forest are permanent which lessen the wall cost. (if you're a player who like me, love walls)

Gameplay is also a lot faster than Age of Empire but slower than your average Starcraft / Warcraft / C&C, there aren't many tech to research, usually 1 or 2 per unit, very few general ones and 2 by ressource buildings to produce more.

There's no need to build more than a single base as in faster games to hog ressources since they're rather fix.

You have a single hero unit who automatically spawn back at the camp after a while so you don't have to worry losing it, you lose when your temple is destroyed.

Number of units could be bit higher but honnestly, it's enough at the moment.
You also get units abilities, hero abilities and general spells... general spells are like Age of Mythology, you can them anywhere you like, hero abilities (there are 2 or 3 at most at max lvl) need a tiny bit of micro but you can do without.
Units abilities are all automatically cast so even if you wanted to micro, you couldn't.

This is the main difference with Battle Realms (by the way, look at the version on Steam with updated graphics, it's fantastic) is about managing units, no gear to manage and armies are bigger (Battle Realms is heavy on micro and upgrading units) and you can build walls and place units on them !!! Turrets are automatic.

All in all, Godsworn is great game, very much different from BR but taking a bit of Warcraft and a bit of Age of Mythology IMO.

One game that I thought was underrated which allowed for unit customization was Earth 2160. Before a skirmish you could modify the types of vehicles / tanks / planes you would bring into the game. Loved that game.

Sounds good. I DO love both WC3 and AoM. My worry about this game (as I mentioned in my original post) is the lack of maps. We love Act of Aggression but due to lack of maps my friends and I got bored. We even loved Supreme Commander 2, but again due to lack of maps we stopped. WC3 was great b/c the map editor allowed for tons of user-made maps, and of course AoM had random generated maps so again gameplay didn't get boring. Hopefully they introduce a map editor in this game to avoid that.
