Ffs if you really want the game just buy it on steam.
Steam does nothing to protect against piracy, nor does GOG enable it. We ask for a GOG copy, because we want to buy and play the game without having to ask for daddy's permission every time.
This game looks gorgeous!
Can't you just offline the game and play anytime you want? I don't think there is anything on Steam inhibiting play whenever you want and you don't have to "ask for permission" you just offline it and then play via the game. You can even still play multiplayer. Steam just patches the game similar to GOG in this respect. The only time you would have to "ask daddy" is if you are playing on Steam servers and using Steam API which is offered to studios and independents alike due to their low cost. Placing a game that requires Steam to function on GOG isn't the same as being DRM free.
I think you're lack of comprehension isn't a reason for them to move it to GOG. If they feel like doing it more power to them but you actually gain nothing by moving it to GOG.
I just tried it offline and was able to access multiplayer further....you can launch it from it's executable without steam running.
So nothing you are asking for isn't already present in the current Steam version of the game.
I just closed Steam and was still able to run the game without Steam being active on the system by launching it via the executable. I don't think you understand why Steam is praised as the greatest proponent of PC gaming in history. Also, Steam lists any DRM on the side panel. You're right, it doesn't do anything to protect games that have no DRM, because Steam is a distribution platform like GOG.
The only use this game has for Steam is to patch it as far as I can tell.
So there is literally no difference between Steam and GOG regarding this game. Furthermore, GOG has an app that combines all the libraries into one, so GOG could still be used even with the purchased copy on Steam.
Given all of this, I imagine that GOG is probably at the very bottom of their list of priorities, and I recommend they keep it that way, as it currently provides no real benefit, as there is no functional difference between the two services regarding this game.
The reason why Steam offers servers, patching, and other API functions is to prevent piracy. For instance a game using Steam servers is something pirates are not going to be able to access. This means when Steam does updates or Steam is down you can't play on those servers but those servers allow low budget games to exist with multiplayer cause they are extremely cheap. Now some games use P2P and other things to reduce this cost even more.
However to blame Steam for offering cheap alternatives means you just don't know what you are talking about in regards to Steam.
You could literally download this game and delete steam and still play it.
I have more games on GOG than on Steam so I don't know what you're talking about.
Steam has its own DRM that is not disclosed in the page, is true some games on Steam are DRM-Free, but is not the majority and GOG provides offline installers to preserve a game for the future.
Regarding multiplayer they can use Galaxy or put an option to do LAN connections so multiplayer can live even without Steam or GOG Galaxy's servers.
That's why many of us care for a GOG version of any game.
GOG and Zoom-Platform also offer offline installers, that take care of creating shortcuts, installing dependencies and creating registry entries for uninstall menu.
On Steam, I'd have to install the game and zip up the install directory, make note of any potential dependencies... and then do it all over again after each update. Yeah... no. I'd rather pay GOG to do it.
And if the devs don't want to publish on GOG, then they don't get my money. Simple. This is not GTA 6, they don't have enough power to seduce me into abandoning my principles.
Steam lists 3RD PARTY DRM, not their own.
I really don't care. You can worship Steam's near-monopoly all you like. They lost me, when they yanked Agony Unrated from my library and support were completely indifferent. It'll be entertaining to look at Steam, once GabeN steps down.
They could go to Epic and use their online services. Epic's online services are cross-platform and would work on Epic, Steam and GOG.
Worst case scenario: Remove multiplayer from the GOG version.
I get your point no worries. Only thing is they use steam API. So I don't know what it would imply even using EGS services. If that means redevelop a whole interface (I mean a dev interface not the UI) this might be a lot to do as only 2 peps? Once again it's only assumptions
