Does it still use Origin?

I might be looking to finally check this out but I’m just wondering if it still needs the other client installed to play it because I don’t want it installed on my system.

Why can`t we just buy a game and play it. I do not want to join this and that just to play a game I have purchased.

Absolutely. I’d buy loads of EA games if they didn’t include their own client. Or if their client was literally built-in to Steam so it was invisible.

My theory is that they can’t axe origin/ea app completely is because of EA Play mixed with corporate greed and publishing rights. For this game specifically, I would wager it’s the achievements being directly tied to the EA app. In order to divorce this game from it they would need to redo all the triggers and I just don’t see them investing more time into this game.

I've had issues running this game on the EA App.

First, I activated it, when Origin was still a thing. Played fully through it and left it alone for a while.
Next time I wanted to run it, the EA app automatically installed and uninstalled Origin.

But the game could not be started.

I've gave it a thumbs down as of that (while I love this space opera and it clearly deserves a thumbs up from a GAME-perspective).

Just tried to start it yesterday (had a workaround with forcing an Origin-client running) and let it update to EA app and uninstall my Origin-client that I used as workaround.
Finally, the game runs with the EA app for me, so I gave it a thumbs up once more.

Yes, EA are still a bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. You still need to have an active internet connection to play this single player game. DO NOT BUY IT ON PC.

Great decision, same for me im not supporting a product which forces me to install a launcher, create an account a login for a single player title (always online drm)

game is dirt cheap right now, same as old versions but id rather buy something else and support a publisher who actually respects their customers.

if the game wasn't multiplatform and the coders were being lazy maybe, any major game is going to have an achievement manager that handles which of the services get the achievements unlocked.

EA wants you on their launcher because it lets them track you and if you are already using the launcher you are more likely to sign up for EA Play.

Personally I use Playnite as my launcher as that allows me to see all my owned games in one place and all the other launchers open as background tasks when I launch one of their games so I don't even see them
