HELP: How do you apply weapon upgrades/armor

Okay I am getting use to this game slowly, I know to go into the equipment menu to change out my teams weapons etc.

But I cant find how to put on the upgrades or armor?

I scored some armour and was going to change it up on myself and/or the team and I couldnt. I am going to sell it if I cant wear it or apply it.

in ME1 you can wear better armor if you put points into the Armor talent. In ME 2 you have to use your personal console in you Normandy Captain cabin to put on better armor and/or selecting better weapons.

Okay I sort of understand that, I am upgrading the stats when I can, and manage to slightly change armour, although light, would prefer better stats, my weapons leave alot to be desired even at early game. I managed to rescue talia not without alot of hassles and got my team killed twice I think.

But I am collectingly weapon upgrades and want to apply them but not sure how. I know where it says weapons and armour etc and even a multi tool I think, but not the upgrades.

So i am stuck, how do I apply the upgrades I really need to improve my stats right now on these weapons and better protect either myself or the team.

i think the weapon and omnitool upgrades are automatically applied once you find/purchase them. the armor upgrades that are in the form of like, a visor, you have to manually put on in the armor loadout for the stats to work.

Unless they pop a message saying they've been applied when you acquire them, you have to research them in Mordin's lab at the relevant console.

The upgrade system isn't exactly a model of consistency, but the named upgrades--particularly those that have tags that say something like "You need one more xxx upgrade before you can research this upgrade"--definitely have to be researched.

Where is Mordin's lab etc? Like I use sniper rifle purely because I dont like close combat and sort of new to combat. It works so far as I managed to get my last member and killed everything in my way. Mind you my team died like 2 or 3 times.

But I am collecting upgrades, one is sniper site upgrade I think. And for others on my team who are more the muscle of the crew could do with first aid upgrades or grenade upgrades etc or even armour but I cant apply them or cant see them to add them.

I dont have the money to buy higher as everything is high price and low income. the best I can do is upgrade the weapons and I really dont want to take on more missions first.....

That's in ME2 on the Normandy, next to the CIC.
Mordin is a crewmate in ME2, you won't meet w/ him in the first game.

You can apply upgrades in the inventory menu. Select the weapon you HAVE equipped (you can only upgrade ♥♥♥♥ if it's equipped) and on there will be 1-3 squares (depends on how high lvl your weapon is). Click on one of those squares and there will be your mods. Same w/ armor.
