ME" Sentinel or adept?
Title. I rolled adept because I wanna be a wizard in everything.

Adept on ME1 is broken because all enemies are vulnerable to biotics but that changes in the next installments of the series (if you play on Insanity). Enemies have shields and barriers so you can't lift them anymore until you've dealt with those and that changes everyhting, the only exception is Stasis which is broken on both ME2 and ME3 (Liara is the only squadmember that uses it but you can get it as a bonus power if you want regardless of your class).
Sentinel is better (or more fun) IMO for ME2 and especially ME3. I'm playing currently as a sentinel on ME3 with a CD reduction of +200% and it feels godly. Shepard can use Throw every 2 seconds, Cryo Blast and Warp every 4, Overload every 5 and I can resist much more damage than an Adept, I kill everything with Chain detonations and barely have to pull the trigger, you can't get more wizard-like than this.
The Adept is too squishy and access to Singularity just doesn't cut it for me, not to mention Adepts have no Tech powers while Sentinels do (which limits your companion choice).

The Sentinel is going to be all around stronger in Mass Effect 2, just with how the abilities play out. This is by no means saying Adept is "weak" in Mass Effect 2. In ME1, Sentinels have so much utility and crowd control (especially if you get Singularity as your bonus power). In ME 2, Sentinels can be built to be an unstoppable, defense-stripping killing machine (ESPECIALLY if you choose Assault Rifles as Bonus Weapon Training and bring the Mattock, as well as max out heavy Warp Ammo as your bonus power). In Mass Effect 3, Sentinels are considerably more tanky than Adepts, and of course, have access to tech abilities in addition to biotic abilities.

Adepts kick ass in Mass Effect 1, 2 & 3. In 2 you are going to have to do more shooting to strip abilities or get Energy Drain as your bonus power to survive getting through defenses first. But with the power overhaul in Mass Effect 3, Adepts are glass canons that can absolutely lay the smack down power-wise.

I main Adept. It's the only instance where I pick full "wizard". I like the spells, and in ME's 2 & 3, I focus heavily on cooldown over power. I make strong use of power-detonation, but will usually act as a support to my teammates that handle the bigger threats. That being said, I'm fantastic at whittling down heavier things in this capacity, while everyone else takes down the smaller ones if necessary. As long as nothing gets into close quarters with me, I can survive and dish out. So for Adept, I would say if you wanna do lots of crowd control and burst damage, that's your baby.

Sentinel is more of a tank than anything, as well as a jack of all trades. Decent, but not entirely my cup of tea, personally. I've seen some great Sentinels, don't get me wrong. Overall, I'd consider a Sentinel a support class unless you really know how to synergize--in which case, you can dominate the battlefield. Sentinels are better frontliners than picking off people in the back (despite Garrus being a Sentinel and his famous use of the sniper rifle). They can handle CQB scenarios (though not as much as a Soldier or Vanguard), but definitely play a bigger role in having a solution for every problem. Jack of all trades, master of none. Great in ME1, mid in ME2, and pretty low-tier for ME3. But then again, that's just my opinion, I could be dissuaded.

Engineer could be wizard too! Overload is like lightning bolt, Incinerate is like Fireball and drones could act as familiars =)
