female romance options are pretty trash, I don't care how much depth you think the thane relationship has, and garrus is probably one of the most bad ass characters out there but I only hooked up with him for the achievement. that said. Male playthroughs feel alot smoother to me, but female voice actor is pretty hot. so hard to say. as romance is such a small part of it you have to play both., try not to make a stupid face is way more important. bug ass hairstyles all the rage on legendary editions streamed atm lmao.

Over time I've definitely come to prefer femshep. In the first game, male Shepard feels a bit like cardboard, whereas Jennifer Hale (the VA for femshep) is much more expressive as a character. 2 and 3 are a lot closer for performance. I've never found the male romance options like Miranda and Ashley interesting personally so that wasn't a big factor for me.

Shepard is officially a man. there is no debate about it.
He has a big pair of balls, it’s verifiable :Geralt:

I prefer playing as male shepard. It just feels correct as I get minor cognitive dissonance when playing a female :D

As you can see from the responses, it's down to personal preference, and you won't know your preference until you try both.

My suggestion.

1st play through. BroShep, soldier, paragon, romance Ashley in ME1, then Tali in ME2 and 3.

2nd play through. FemShep, adept, renegade, romance Kaidain in ME1, then Garrus in ME2 and 3.

3rd play through. BroShep, vanguard, renegade, romance Liara in ME1, ME2 and ME3.

4th play through. FemShep, infiltrator, paragon, romance Liara in ME1, then Thane in ME2.

5th play through, BroShep, sentinel, paragade (use save editor), romance Ashley in ME1, and ME3. Romance Miranda in ME2, but be aware, she cries when you don't choose to resume your romance in ME3.

If you want super sexually aggressive FemShep, romance Jacob in ME2.

I'm a dude and I can't remember the last time I played broshep. Femshep has been my go to for several years and I've been playing Mass Effect since day 1. Femshep just has a way with her words and facial expressions that can't be beat by broshep imo.

You can't go wrong with either one though. Both VAs are incredible.

Both voice actors did a great job. But I prefer FemShep as I believe that Jennifer Hale is a better voice actor than Mark Meer.

I could only ever play Femshep because I just cannot deal with Mark Meer's version of Shepard. He sounds like such a TOOL. And now he's some kind of long-haired hippie.

I knew my instincts were right, the second I began my first play-through, years ago, and I heard that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ speak. I heard him, and I said to myself "Nah, I cannot play as this dude"

Thus, Sierra Shepard was born.

I'm pretty sure Hale is a nutjob in her own way, I've never cared to know about their personal lives.

Completely agree. As someone put it years ago when some "performer" started lecturing the audience, "Shut up and SING!"

Have you ever served in the military? If so, in what way?

What do personal lives have to do with voice acting?

That's what Megatron is saying. It has nothing to do with it, and he doesn't want to mix the two. It's the opposite of the tabloid readers who will watch a movie, fall in love with the character, and now wants to know everything about the actor, because the tabloid reader 100% equates the actor and the character as being the same.

Jennifer Lawrence caught a bit of flack for her sarcastic quip that "Because their the ones who really know you." But she was right.

All I want from an actor, voice actor, game developer, musician, athlete, comic book author, is to be entertained. I don't want to know about your political ideology, I don't want to know about your sexuality or who you are boffing, I don't want to know where you live, who your friends are, or what your hobbies are. I just want to be entertained. That's all. Entertain me and then go away. I have my own life to attend to.
