Different languages - Subtitles&Audio
The German Voice over is bad. Like, really, REALLY bad, it does deliver some comedic value, but that's it.

So I want to change the spoken language to English, but keep the texts in German - I just found the option to switch the language in general but not for spoken/written language.

Is it possible to change it somehow or do I HAVE to switch the whole game language?

Thanks

I believe a read an earlier discussion saying that subtitles and spoken language are one and the same. Sucks. Seems like it should be easy to do but idk. Games aren't like movies so it might actually be hard to implement like that when the game didn't have it planned originally.

What the hell is the point of that? Subtitles are one of the primary ways to enjoy foreign media and understand what's going on.

Was it like this in the original versions?

Yes, the originals are like that. And though subtitles are a big support for foreign media, in terms of games, it is more often used for gamers with auditory disabilities.

(Not to excuse Bioware; AAA games of their caliber should be able to play w/e audio with w/e subtitles.)

But I feel it is also a little misguided to assume subtitles primarily exist for foreign media when I doubt that was the intent when it was implemented... I imagine the different language options were intended to fufill that need.

Same language subtitles are used for hearing disabilities, but Subtitles are used around the world for translating foreign media because it's cheaper than dubbing. It's the primary method for consuming and understanding foreign media for most countries in the world.

Edit: That pesky filter will not stop me from quoting your name.

For ME1:

Go to your "Documents\Bioware\Mass Effect\Config" folder.
Open the "BIOEngine.ini" in a text Editor.
Search for "Language=ITA" and change it to "Language=INT" (Without the quotes)
Save the file.
Now ME1 will be in English.

Found this for the OG ME1, maybe it works for the remaster, too.

In ME3 they introduced an option to switch sub and dub separately. It is a bummer that this was removed in the remaster across all games:

It was possible, at least in the original Mass Effect 3, to set audio and text independently. Not anymore. There is apparently a way to manually change this for all 3 games, as described in the thread "Voices and subtitles":

EA needs to patch this for all 3 games, otherwise I won't buy the Legendary Edition!
