If I recall correctly (I might be completely wrong though), ME1 worked with my 360 wireless controller, so did ME2. It was ME3 that needed mods to add controller support (which was two seperate mods for single and multiplayer).
I remember using a 360 controller but I had to do somethings, I can't remember what, so I could use the controllers. The Windows 10 came out and I had to get digital versions of the game and those I could not get to work with a controller.
Yeah, I probably misremembered...my bad.
This is bad advice. I wish steam did a better job of explaining to ppl.
If a game has Native Controller Support (99% of games do, including ME:LE)
then you just disable all of the Steam api controller crap.
Go to Settings in top left corner first-Controller-General Controller Settings-disable/untick everything.
Then right click game in library-Properties-Controller-Use Default Settings.
Leave it like this. Only needs messing with if the game doesnt have native pad support.
I can tell you for a fact, that even without "Steam API controller crap", ME:LE has issues with the Series X controller. So does FIFA 21. In fact, it is only Origin games that seem to have an issue with it. All Steam games work fine, all games on Epic Games Store and even all games I have on the crappy Bethesda Launcher work fine with a Series X controller. Origin is the exception and probaboly the culprit here.
That may be true for a Series X, I'm using Xbox Elite Series 2 controller & all my Origin games work correctly (inc ME LE). In fact I almost exclusively use a pad on PC, & I've never had a problem with controller support in my life.
My point is that a lot of ppl enable steam controller, when they shouldn't.
Mine IS detected as well, it jsut doesn't worrk properly (X and A buttons are swapped, some menus can't be navigated with the analog stick and in those that can, down on the stick moves the selection up and vice versa).
That sounds like a steam controller config issue. Open the steam overlay and try to select a different controller preset. Also, make sure you have the Xbox configuration and Xbox Extended Feature support enabled in steam's controller settings. I don't assume to know what you have or haven't tried and I hope this doesn't come off as me treating you like a dumb-ass. I come from a tech support background and it has ruined me forever.
Since I don't own the game on Steam, I don't get the "complete package" in terms of controller settings and configs when I add it to Steam as a non-Steam game.
But yeah, I've tried that...which resulted in ME1 getting stuck in the splash screen upon selecting it from the launcher. Then it launches fine on Origin, but the controller is all over the place, so...
I kinda gave up on it now and canceled my Play Pro subscription. Was looking forward to playing Biomutant with it, but I guess I'll buy that one on Steam if it turns out to be a good game.
