Accidentally entering DLC
Having never played the DLC content before and playing through ME:2/3s campaigns again after so long every now and then I stumble onto a random mission and find my self in a 4 hour romp through some random unrelated side story and I can't tell if its hilarious or just odd.
You need to go here and stop the reapers from doing the thing! The future of the galaxy depends on this! Oh, nevermind time to throw a party on the citadel in your swanky new apartment.

I haven't yet reached 3, but I'm strongly considering a combo of the "good ending" mod and the "citadel epilogue" mod on my first playthrough specifically for this reason; (that combined with not being very excited for the original ending tbh)

the citadel epilogue mod in particular shifts the entire sidestory on the station, and depending on your settings the party itself, to after the final mission

That is every single rpg ever. "Oh ♥♥♥♥ the worlds ending, but wait my neighbor's cat needs a scratch."

Not very many rpgs come to mind the managed to do a good job keeping that sense of overarching urgency with all of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ side questicles.

The original Deus Ex did a bang up job but that wasn't exactly the free form open worldish rpgs like Mass Effect.

Indoctrination theory is the only true ending in my head cannon. Good god how awesome that would have been.

Indoctrination theory would have been nonsensical because it's repeatedly shown that it only happens to people standing around the Dead Space markers and this is corroborated in the games and the novels. Furthermore it wouldn't have been "awesome," it would have similarly made the entire series pointless and the only reason people came up with the theory is to cope with how severely dumb the ending actually was. Like, "this only makes sense if we're drunk right now."

As for the hilarity of going to party at Anderson's bachelor pad in the middle of earth being besieged, again, the problem is the tonal shift between that part of the writing and the rest of it. People ♥♥♥♥ on Bethesda's writing all the time but when you get a notice to "investigate the Dragonborn cult" it at least seems tangibly related to overall matters. If you read between the lines here, OP is just saying the Citadel DLC is silly as hell and they're right because it's just quoting internet memes, doing some Whedonisms and has a fanfic-level plot floating in the midst of a game that ends either with characters dying, the bad guys winning, or the bad guys also winning.

yeah... ME3 really only feels right when you play with the happy ending and Citadel epilogue mods.

Correct and the buggy the Citadel DLC should have used Kasumi as she was alive in my game too. Oh and the Citadel DLC has nothing at all to do with the final game mission either, it's just a waste of space.
