How intrusive is it - will it allow me in install mods without throwing a fit or banning my acct?

Apart from fingerprinting my OS - is it going to start installing background processes?
I guess it's not 'anti-cheat/anti-tamper' stuff right? Just 'we know who you are'.

Never had any issues with playing the game modded. You will observe a background process but you can close it after you exit the game.

The DRM is just the EA launcher AFAIK.

Be prepared to restart, update and otherwise fight with the EA app. (you might be lucky and don't have to, but better good surprises than bad ones).
Also, know that you can't ever play the game offline.
There is no reason for any bans of course, since it's a solo game.

I have tons of mods, and unlike the super vocal minority on this forum the game has always worked for me on both of my computers. Also dude saying you can't play in offline is factually incorrect, offline mod has been working for at least a full year but maybe longer. I know because I live in hurricane territory and had to play in offline a good bit last year.

You have to first be online, set the EA app to offline mod, let it restart, then set Steam to offline mode as well.

Oh, I didn't know about the possibility of playing offline. (obviously) Thanks for correcting me.
However, it sounds as if you have to set it to offline while you're online, which doesn't help with spontaneously being offline. Being offline and knowing it in advance is quite rare in my experience. Hurricanes not withstanding. Usually it's just the old "internet is down for whatever stupid and unknown reason and of course without any warning" thing that lastes from a few hours to whole days.

But if ME is the only game you need the EA app for it's probably fine to keep the offline setting there. (As long as you don't have to update or reset the thing every other time. as I stated above) Steam can be switched to offline mode being offline after all.

You already need to be online to set the majority of platforms into offline mode, Steam was always the same way until more recent years. While it may not make a lot of sense, it isn't unique to EA at all.

Does it 'self-close' or should I keep an eye out for it?
If it's just the EA launcher it won't be a problem - or is it like a taskbar widget or task-manager process

At this stage, I'm gonna get it - just need to be aware if it.

It closes. It doesn't even really open fully, just as a background process when you start up MELE until you close it out.

I'm pretty sure it's just a stub for the launcher, but if you open up the Task Manager you'll be able to judge for yourself.

The only reason I'm even aware of it is that there have been several threads in this forum and the DAI forum that propose the following possible solutions to the EA App not working correctly:

1. Open up Task Manager and close down all EA-related tasks, then relaunch the game; or,

2. Launch the EA App manually before launching the game.

As I assume is evident, these solutions are mutually-exclusive mirror images of each other... :steammocking:
