Best advice I can give is to spam your abilities as much as possible, in ME1 they were easy to neglect. You can also take into consideration which partner has the right weapons for the enemies defences, If you don't know the enemy yet then just try and take a well rounded comp that can cover the three bases of Shield, Biotic, and Armour defence.
If not on PC, I don't know, try on easiest, use the most OP class and party, save and try doing different things, but some fights could still be tricky, if you not good at games.
Also mass effect 2 is likely the hardest among the three especially on harder difficulties where everything has at least basic protection.
And enemies with protection can not be crow controlled.
And in both ME2 and ME3 almost every weapon and"spell" has different damage scalars againts different enemy protections.
That's very different than ME2 import in ME3.
Deeply wrong, ME2 Hardcore (with import) is easier than ME3 Normal (with import) and ME1 Hard (? Not sure of the name).
After ME2 Hardcore there's one extra difficulty, perhaps your comment is more just for max difficulty of the 3 games, didn't tried any.
I played ME2 at Hardcore without any problem (but few bosses), and I'm not a good shooter player. But Kasumi is a wrong pick, she dies easilly because she tends expose her with her sneak attack.
But also I don't see your problem with Harbinger and cover, at Hardcore cover was working. The only enemy causing this problem with cover and at Hardcore is one with a power similar to Jack power Shockwave.
And then one important point is I played ME2 HArdcore and ME3 Normal with a tech, and the drone changes deeply the combat in both games, perhaps even more in ME2 despite ME3 has even an extra turret sort of stronger tactically.
Moreover that you quote Kasumi is bizarre, in ME2 strongest companions are:
- Grunt
- Tali but she requires more hand holding.
- Mordin (I think he never died ever in my Hardcore ME2 play, and honestly I have no idea why exactly he is more efficient)
All three very close, with a small extra for Grunt but he died once or twice. So sure play the whole game with same companions isn't fun, but not pick at least one strong for stronger parts and even 2 for tougher parts is questionable.
EDIT:
Also I only comment Mass Effect Legendary, not original. At least for ME1 the changes in combats is probably big, I suspect companions quite fixed (ME1 Liara and ME1 Wrex becoming the most powerful companions of the trilogy, and I mean without much manual controls).
Otherwise, ME3 has quite more enemies diversity, has more enemies making a pressure close range, has Harpies, has quite more combats diversity, has more complexity in enemies schemes. The only point I would give to ME2 and difficulty is bosses overall, ME3 has some weird bosses, when ME2 has some annoying bosses but tough. Still tougher bosses are more ME3 including final of Omega DLC, not the boss itself but the whole combat.
