Steam Deck- App Running Error

Hello,

So I’ve downloaded ME LE to my steam deck and I am not able to get it running. When I hit the play button the EA launcher opens up, sometimes missing features because it was “launched from another application.”

When I double click the game icon in the EA library to launch the game I hear a sound from and after a few moments I get a message that reads: “An error occurred while launching this game: app running.”

Could somebody walk me through the proper method to fix this? For some background information I just got back into games after a little over a decade not touching anything. I travel for work a ton and the steam deck has been really cool these past few months catching up on all that I’ve missed.

That said, I’m very computer illiterate, I have tried to google some answers but most of what I get is for different types of errors or for actual desktop PCs or I just can’t follow the instructions because I get lost. I really need this broken down Barney style.

I would prefer not to have to re-download the game as I am at a remote work site and the internet is slow, literally took me about 24-30 hours to download the game the first time. I also have Andromeda cued up to download and imagine I may run into the same issue. Anyway thanks to anyone who can help me replay one of my favorite game series.

Update: I downloaded and launched Andromeda and had no problems. I noticed when launching from the regular game mode by hitting the “play” button it bypassed opening the EA App where I had to reselect the game again like with Legendary Edition. Also in the EA app andromeda is not listed as installed even though it is. Can I get some help on how to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ this and get it working properly? Thanks.

Same problem here. I can't play ME:LE. Two days ago I could play without any trouble.

Anyone have any recommendations? I’ll end up just trying to reinstall and hope for the best. Unfortunately customer support through steam is recommending generic troubleshooting articles instead of actually addressing the issue.

Same problem, but works fine through desktop mode. looks like ea broke their launcher again

I was able to get it to run by turning on compatability mode to proton 8. A pop-up said the ea app crashed but the game started.

Run the game in GE-Proton 8-20, All so run in window mode in game options if you want HDR enabled.

But also, just a tip from a steamdeck user to another, go into desktop mode, open the game files, and do the below steps to save nearly 30 gigs in space

Free Up Some Hard Drive Space (in steam)
the good news is the game generally doesnt re-download them when patching unless that specific file is being updated (rare after release) but if you move the game or verify files, it will re-download as well, but otherwise your just saving space

Mass effect lgendary delete language files (like 30 gigs worth)
delete any files with the following (ctrl f is your friend at the root mass effect legendary edition folder _de. _fr. _it. _plpc. _ra. _DEU. _FRA. _ITA. _POL. _JPN. _RUS. _ESN.
some appear to be redundant (IE: _de. and _DEU. its because ME1 uses a diff format than ME2/ME3)

I have similar instructions for days gone, doom eternal, uncharted, halo MCC, reportedly horizon and god of war also have that issue (sony games its frequent until helldivers which makes langauges optional)

On deck myself. I find hitting the steam button and going home, then resuming typically lets me in.

Edit. Let the ea portion go through until the screen goes black. Then try the steps above.

Thanks for the advice, I tried reinstalling and it took me a couple days and it still isn’t working so I’ll try this. Question, where do I get proton 8 - 20 the only one I have available is proton 8.0-5.

Also I have now tried to launch from desktop mode. The Ea launcher will open but when I try to launch the game it will tell me it’s launching the game and then not do anything.

Have you tried my suggestion above? Let's me in every time, albeit I'm using 8-20.

Are you using the GE 8-20 or is there a regular 8-20. If I back out it still won’t by pass the EA launcher window thing where you need to select the game to launch it. And if I launch it from there and try to back out it still gives me the app running error.
