How to get Achievements to pop with EA app -- Current Solution (does not include Origin)
FYI. Can confirm this also works with multi-game achievements.
Currently doing ME3. Just unlocked Paramour III using the methods below (Firewall version).

Origin is officially phased out. If you are still able to use it, that won't be the case soon.

As the title says, for Mass Effect, this is a problem. For others games, you may not have this problem at all.

The sad thing is if you already played the game and unlocked achievements in game (like I did for all Mass Effect games), they won't populate in steam just by playing the game or starting the EA app. There is currently no sync for that with ME legendary. The only way to pop them in steam now is to start the game, and when you are at the screen for which game you want to play (1, 2 or 3) you must disconnect your PC from the internet, then delete your local_profile file from Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save\ME3'
-- Side note -- once you re-connect your internet this solution goes away. So don't re-connect your internet after you delete that file. Only re-connect your internet once you have exited the game.
-- local_profile could instead be called gamer_profile based on ME1, 2 or 3.

Once you do that, select start (not resume) verify the achievements show as locked in game, and continue about your business. Once you take certain actions a lot of achievements will pop up if they were already unlocked, like killing X number of enemies, bruiser, etc. But this won't be the case for everything. Things like Paramour or long service medal may require you to resume or start your previous ME1 and ME2 files (results vary from what many have stated in other forums).

If you have something that has not popped on steam, and you unlock it using this method, it will show up in steam when your internet is re-activated.

For example. I had the giant killer achievement not unlocked in steam. Following this method, you can view my profile and see that I have unlocked it.

Other games like jedi fallen order have the ability to start the game without launching the ea app and you can try that way, but I am not aware this option exists with ME Legendary.

OPTION 2 -- this was posted in this thread and I added it to this post so anyone viewing will see it

You need to create two firewall rules using standard windows program: "Windows defender firewall with advanced security". Open It. Right mouse on Inbound rules->New Rule-> Program->This program->Point it to EADesktop.exe, (in my case its C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop\EADesktop.exe)->Block the connection->(All profiles should be checked already so just click NEXT)->make the rule name like 'block ea desktop'
Repeat same steps for Outbound Rules, make same rule and same rule name.
Now rules that just created are in 'Enabled' state, but to launch game you need temporary disable them or EA launcher just wont start, so before every game session just right click on them and choose 'Disable rule'. And before doing this step make sure you have a backup of GamerProfile file just in case.

Enable the rules when you get to the game selection screen before clicking start and then delete Local_Profile (GamerProfile for ME2). Start the game and check in the main menu that achievements are still locked. If they are unlocked something went wrong.

With this the achievements will even pop normally while you are playing.

You could also just wait until they fix this abysmal nightmare with the EA app. As apparently, this issue is prevalent across a large number of games.

I assume, this only works for achievements you've already unlocked? Or is it possible to unlock them while playing (when I end a certain mission)?

Yes, if you have already unlocked the achievements in game (playing through Origin for example) but they are not unlocked after launching on Steam, this method does work.

If you never unlocked an achievement, having never played the game before, one would assume you just start the game and no problem.

I recently unlocked Pyromaniac and Giant Killer using this method. But had already unlocked them in game when I had played the game through Origin.

Seems like this can work, but instead I just blocked the connection to launcher and the game from Windows firewall.

Also, for ME2 the file is called GamerProfile

Maybe I will try this out, if nothing else works in the future. But as you mentioned in another thread:

I already uninstalled the EA app. Who knows wtf it's trying to do in the background at all times.

I'm also torn between continuing and stop playing now. I'm in the middle of part 3 and at 69% and really annoyed about the fact, how customer friendly EA is with their new app. But I will spend a Scientist to you for your good work by finding a workaround :)

Idk, I did Jacob loyalty mission, went back to check the achievements in the main menu and noticed I had all (had none before starting my save) and did not get this one on Steam after unblocking the connection to the games.

Maybe I did something wrong.

So after im done with my session, i can close the game and reconnect to internet and i should get the achievements right?
And do i need to delete the local_profile file everytime i want to play the game?

Start the game -- lets assume you want to play ME1
When you are at the screen to select ME1, ME2, ME3 (start or resume options) first do the following
turn off your internet -- do not turn your internet back on
Delete the appropriate file
You will notice you need to rebind your controls and turn subtitles back on, but everything else should be the same.
If you unlock an achievement, you will still get the pop up in game
if it was not unlocked in steam, you will see it unlocked after you exit your game and turn your internet back on

Again, do not turn the internet back on until you are finished playing, otherwise it won't work.

Yup.

You have to do the same thing every single time.
Pain in the ass if you want to unlock your achievements and be done with it.

But there is no way to do this and continue with your current save right?

Yes, it will work with your current save.
I recently unlocked 3 achievements in ME3 using this method. I have around 12 or 13 in game hours and did it.
