I do everything before so i can end on the epic suicide mission and then go right into credits.
Also you have endless time to do stuff if you just be mindful of a few things.
The first forced story mission triggers after you recruit 4 people, you can do other stuff too at that time. After you got your 4th character you get forced into one story mission.
After that more characters unlock and also loyalty missions and other stuff.
Doing any 5 of those, even just random planet landings will force you into the next story mission.
After that second forced mission you get a new story mission on the map where you have to retrieve a item .
You can leave that mission open for as long as you want.
You now can do EVERYTHING else, all the loyalty missions, all the DLC , all the random side missions you can find.
After that go get that item in the story mission which will also give you your final party member.
As you already done everything else you get their loyalty mission right away.
Do it and after that the event that goes into the endgame triggers.
You now have nothing left to do , everyone is loyal, all DLC done and you can go right into the suicide mission.
Thats at least the way i prefer to do it.
But can I do the final mission, do the DLC missions, and still have the crewmates survive?
Edit: I think when you reload the game after finishing the suicide mission it loads you back into a point before doing the final mission. Does that mean that if I chose to do the DLC until then I'm putting the crewmates at risk?
Basically I'm not 100% sure how starting DLC mission affects crew survival after you already finished the game.
Once you do the suicide mission, the game doesn't put you 'before' the Omega Relay, it puts you on the Normandy right after. That's why everyone on the ship reacts to you killing the Collectors.
You can safely do your DLCs from this point on. I'm in the exact same spot as you and I'm just starting LotSB now.
Awesome. Thanks for the response!
Just to be sure does this mean you will be back on the Normandy after the suicide mission and from there can continue with the DLC's? or will you be put back to the main menu after the ending credits like with ME1?
You start back in front of the Galaxy Map in the Normandy and can continue to do DLC and side quests and such for as long as you want.
I just finished ME2 so I can answer this for you.
Yes, you'll be back on the Normandy after the mission. You'll then be able to start the DLC missions or any missing missions without worrying about the captured crew members dying.
