New game plus - insanity problem
So.. I have finished ME 1 on normal difficulty, now I wanna finish it on insanity to get achievement. Problem is that when I load character for new game, it just launches game without asking me what difficulty I want. When cutscene ends and I can check, its set to normal. Tried to change it in main menu before launching new game plus, but it didnt help. Any sugestions? Dont really wanna play insanity without old equipment to help me out.

Maybe the best way, just to be sure. have fun on your NG+ run.

In the original ME1, you were allowed to play the Eden Prime mission on any difficulty. You would be awarded the insanity achievement, provided you switched to insanity before the end of that mission.

So I would say just change to insanity as soon as the Eden Prime mission starts.

By the way, although I genuinely believe what I have said is correct, when you finish the game 20-30 hours later, don't blame me if you don't get the achievement. Just saying :-)

It is legitimately the answer, though. I don't think there is another way to do it. However, perhaps someone else will be able to come along and confirm what I said, to give you a bit more confidence in the answer,

New Game + is always on the difficulty you started the first run.
Does not count for the achievement if you switch to Insanity since NG+ is a lot easier then a first run.

Also we had another thread today by someone who missed the achievement because he switched to Insanity AFTER the intro scene on the ship.
So it seems the Eden Prime trick does no longer work.

You HAVE to start a new game and select INSANITY on the screen before the game starts and then play through the entire game to the end to trigger the achievement.

Ok, it looks like I stand corrected. Must have been changed with Legendary, since the advice I have above is how I originally got the insanity achievement in 'vanilla'.

So it looks like I have 2 options - finish the end of old save on instanity or start new game and use save editor to get myself money etc.

I started a NG+, and switched to Insanity after I took control of Shepard, and got the achievement just fine.

Then we have multiple people saying different things about that achievement.
So. when you say it worked for you then i would recommend just going for it to the OP.

Just finished my way of solving it and got insanity from beginning on NG+. Restarted Sarens fight, kept settings on casual until very end, then switched to insanity. Now NG+ starts on insanity.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Nah, it doesnt work like that, switching difficulty at the end of the game wont unlock achievement. But if you dont want to play on hardest difficulty, I posted saves on my profile here and Nexus, you can download them and skip the grind :bcportalhi:

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
