I also did never feel any desire to romance her in any of my playthroughs.
She feels more like a little sister character to me then an equal possible love interest for Shepard.
BUT, as always, everyone as different taste in characters.
And thats ok.
But other females dont do much for me. How people tolerate Liara I have no idea either.
Or Ashley or Kaiden.
Garrus, Thane, Wrex are the only respectable ones for me.
I dislike Jacob being a goodie goodie. I dislike Zaeed for being way to about himself. I grunt is... a baby.
Jack I like after you get her to call down and Miranda... ugh I dont want anything from buggy bunny.
Mordin is pretty awesome too. I honestly would have liked a romance with joker or even anderson a playful fling
If she was 20 it wouldn't be annoying to me at all, but being hundreds of years old and still having the persona of a Japanese schoolgirl visiting America for the first time is just cringe.
There is also a very heavy romantic undertone at the end of Lair of the Shadow Broker even if you didn't romance Liara (Shepard goes "I hope I'll see you again soon" after she leaves in a very hopeless-romantic way.) It's strange because BioWare doesn't screw up when it comes to player choice, and it's unlikely to be an oversight because *it's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ending of the dlc.* It's not a fault on Liara's character so much as it's extremely confusing, because it's hard to believe it's an oversight but it just might be.
Thats WAY worse in Mass Effect 3. The game constantly shoves her in your face as a possible romance and there are like 4-5 trigger scenes to start one.
She also has MASSIVELY more interactions and scenes with Shepard then any other character in that game, even if you choose another love interest.
I personally dont mind it too much since i always go for the Liara romance but it could definitely be annoying for others.
But the writers seem to had a clear bias for Liara as the main love interest of Shepard.
In the context of your question and Ogami's answer I think the age of the gamer probably has a lot to do with Tali in that regard.
