Tali Death ME2 question.

So last night I finished my Insanity ME2. I did all loyalty missions and Tali Died. Why? I have done this many times, what did i miss?
My team: Zaeed and Grunt
Ducts: Legion
Fireteam 2 Leader:Garrus Both times.
Escort:Mordin

Anyone know how I lost her? Went Full Paragon with all situations.

Duct: Tali
Escort: Anyone except Samara
Biotic shield: Samara

She survived mine just fine. It may be because you didn't send her in the ducts, she had her suit ruptured in a firefight or something.

I have used both Tali and Legion in the past for ducts without this result of losing a team mate. This was years ago but Legion could do ducts. Just like Jack can sub for Samara.

Can we all agree that the suicide mission as a whole is a dumb gotcha mechanic that forces you to play a very specific way. For me if your loyal you live....thats it.

I came into ME: Legendary with thoughts and posts that ME2 was the best ever. However I am in your camp after this last week and replaying. Its the worst, but man i still love some of what was introduced. Anyway going to carry on with a dead Tali as I have never done that before.

So the issue is, you kept Zaeed and Grunt in your Team when fighting the Reaper.
When holding the line each team member you have left behind has a hidden score and if the average is below the threshold (2) you lose a teamate.
As it happens, Grunt and Zaeed along with Garrus have the highest score out of of the lot (3 or 4 if loyal) with Jack, Tali, Mordin and Kasumi having the lowest (0 or 1 if loyal). The rest are at 1 or 2 if loyal.
So considering that you sent Mordin back, you were BARELY under the threshold. If you want to get them all out alive you just need to replace either Grunt or Zaeed with anyone else except Garrus. (assuming everyone is loyal)

I dont hate Mass Effect 2 ....theres just alot of things that get on nerves about the game.

- Out of whack paragon/Renegade system in terms of loyalty quests.

The system isn't new player friendly and they don't know what to do then it's incredibly frustrating. It's basically a way to trick people into playing thr game again. I looked at your choices and their should be no reason someone died....it makes me want to not experiment with my selections on further playthroughs. Only thing saving me I guess is Miranda is on my crew whenever possible.

Options for suicide mission picks are like this (All Loyal):
Ducs: Tali, Kasumi or Legion
Team Leader: Miranda, Jacob or Garrus
Escort: Can pick anyone, but Mordin here is optimal as he has one of the lowest deffense ratings for final battle
Biotic field: Samara/Morinth or Jack
Team leader: Garrus, Jacob or Miranda
For last battle you should leave high deffense rating party member to deffend position: I believe Garrus, Zaeed and Grunt have highest rating so you shoudn't take them with you.

I went with Garrus as a leader 2x, Kasumi for the ducts and Kasumi as escort. However, keep in mind that most of your squadmates also have to be loyal if you leave someone like Tali in the firesquads. Just pick her as a teammate and she should come out alive.

I did legion and she survived. You take her with you when fighting the final boss

Nope I always bring Garrus to fight the reaper bc of his AP ammo power and nobody dies....the system is stupid.

I think all of your squadmates have to be loyal too if they are part of the firesquads. But I agree, its an awkward and bad explained system.

It's not that picking garrus will get someone killed, it's the low deffense rating if you leave too many low rated characters to deffend

Until last night I was always Miranda and Zaeed. Seems dropping Grunt in for Miranda did it. Not enough heat back with the crew.

it's because you took zaeed and grunt they are better for the defense while you kill the human reaper
