Best class to carry through all 3 games?
I know a lot of it is down to personal preference but vanguard seems like a suicide class, and the infiltratorscloak seems massively overpowered in ME 2.

How is sentinel throughout the series?

Really depends on your style and preference really. Sentinel was my favourite class, especially when they brought in combos in ME 2. You have Overload to break through shields and Warp to shred armour and detonates biotic combos.

If you pair up a Sentinel Shepard with the right squad mates, they can make short work of a lot of fights. Liara and my Sentinel Shep could end a fair bit of fights in ME 3 with a single combo.

I like the high risk, high reward playstyle of the vanguard myself. I like the mobility of the class plus what's not to like about shotgunning things to the face? The only problem I have with it is when it glitches and you're stuck in mid air or the charge won't lock onto a enemy that's only a few feet away.

Soldier is the most consistent because weapons are main way of progression. From game to game skills are more or less important in gameplay, but overall they are responsible for adding flavor to your playthrough, often not practical but cosmetic.

But also fair criticism of soldier is that it is the most boring class since there's almost no sci-fi flavor at all.

All classes are viable. Soldier is boring and has more fun substitute for each playstyle. Your choice should based on: role playing. Favorite gun type. How much you like casting vs shooting. How much you like using cover.

Subjectively Vanguard is my fav by far. In every rpg I play as stealth/assassin, but detonation charge shotgun is just too fkin fun
Sentinel actually starts off pretty weak, OP. ME1 Sentinel is really bland, a pure support character.

Thankfully, ME2 makes Sentinel a much more rounded class, with abilities specifically dedicated to stripping defenses. And if you have an ally with Lift handy, you can use your own Warp attack to create powerful Biotic Explosions. Add in an Ammo Power as a Bonus Power and the M-12 Locust SMG from Stolen Memory, and you have an ultimate all-rounder with plenty of support casting, the abilities to strip ALL defense types(Warp breaks Armor and Barriers PLUS stops regeneration, Overload rips Shields), the ability to tank damage with Tech Armor, an SMG that's functionally an Assault Rifle, and your pick of unique Ammo Powers from your squaddies(I go with AP Ammo from Garrus: +70% damage against anything that isn't Barriers or Shields).

ME3 Sentinel is mostly the same. It's just that now, Sentinel gets Lift, Throw and Warp all at once, allowing you to combo off your own Powers. At that point, you're just blowing up everything with your Biotics. In fact, depending on what squaddies you have, you can pretty much use your Sentinel to set off every type of Power Combo, since I'm pretty sure Warp acts as a detonator for every type of Power Combo.

Sentinel is, for me, the most fun class, because of the sheer versatility offered by the class. However, it's kinda tough running a Sentinel in ME1. Just remember that there are basically two sets of three squaddies in ME1 that each form a basically complete team in terms of abilities: Liara, Tali, Ashley, for the "purists" that each specialize in one aspect; and Kaidan, Garrus, Wrex, for the "hybrids" that have two specialties each. The good news about running a Sentinel in ME1 is having two assault rifle-trained guys backing you up. Wrex is pretty much the ultimate damage sponge in ME1, considering he gets both the biotic "Barrier" power and the "Immunity" power plus huge natural health regen.

With the Legendary modifications, the Sniper Rifle in ME1 is just straight up easy mode. Class barely even matters when you can make even the bulkiest enemies look like cardboard.

I went into ME1 expecting abilities to matter a lot when I chose Infiltrator, only to find the game basically ended the instant I got my hands on a Spectre Sniper Rifle halfway through the story.

Dunno about 2 or 3.

Vanguard EZ. ME1 is a breeze with the basically auto pistol perk and the grenade shotgun. plus in 2 and 3 you can basically always have full shield if you use your charges correctly

For me, Adept is the easiest class to play and I play on Insanity 'but' I have been playing as an Adept since I started as a baby ME player January 2012 and couldn't play above Casual difficulty. I remember playing Soldier on my 360 to unlock the assault and sniper rifles and hating every minute of it.

I mean, most people run Vanguards with shotguns and here's me with an assault rifle absolutely spraying the idiot I've just charged, maybe a nova on ME 3 and charge again.

Pick a class and you'll generally adjust to it.

I should have said i’m playing on insanity, the time shepard can survive being measured in fractions of a second is what puts me off vanguard

And i’m hesitant to play soldier because they have a lot of redundant skills in ME1 (you can only use one gun at a time, you don’t need to buff all 4)

iirc all (or at least most?) tech skills deploy a little "mine" with a proxy fuse - instantly detonates when you hit an enemy with it, so you dont notice, but you can also plop them on walls/floor

Adept is exceptional in ME1, Engineer is best for stripping shields/barriers/etc in ME2-ME3

Depends on the difficulty. The obvious answer is Soldier. You get access to the most powerful skills. Worst would be Vanguard or Adept, you have to rely a lot on your party to cover for your weaknesses at higher difficulties.

<shrug> I like Vanguard myself, in fact at the lower difficulty levels I find it kinda OP.

In ME1 it's a bit boring, but once you get to ME2 and especially in ME3, it's...like a drug.

You can hang back and do crowd control with Shockwave, or you can get up close and personal with Charge. Between those two and the shotgun--with Incendiary Ammo--I'm pretty much good for the whole game.

The trick with Charge is to ONLY charge opponents who are isolated or near death. And sometimes it's useful if YOU are being swarmed, since the barrier restoration can be a real life saver. Pick out a weak opponent, Charge them, they're dead, you're alive and have your defenses instantly restored.

Obviously there are other play styles for Vanguard but that's mine.

Infiltrator is pretty good for a trilogy insanity run.
It's good in 1, God tier in 2 and great in 3.

Sentinel is almost unkillable in 2 and great in 3, but very lame in 1.
