2. Noone had ever told him about a living machine entity called Sovereign that might definately make him do it's bidding, so how was he supposed to anticipate it's sudden but inevitable betrayal?
3. Was that double negative intentional? Because he was definately wrong... and indoctrinated.
4. He was introduced to Sovereign through the Geth and stayed aboard it. He was likely indoctrinated shortly there after but only superficially as indoctrination diminishes the victims cognitive skills (they get dumber). Sovereign used Saren's power trip to control him up until Shepard started messing with their plans.
5. Yeah, basically.
6. He wanted power, Sovereign dangled the proverbial power carrot in front of his nose. Match made in Mass Effect.
Pretty clear that being spared was limited to usefulness. It is shown in later lore that the destruction of intelligent, mass effect using, races could take centuries to complete. So, Sovereign may have been truthful that Saren would get to live out a lifetime.
He unintentionally hated humanity for a string of incidents and when he got access to Nazara after the Blue suns made a number of mistakes which Saren jumped on. Along the way he met and used Kaylee Sanders and intentional failed David Anderson when he was being evaluated as a SPECTRE on the same mission, it was also a way to get the council and David off his back as well.
Saren wanted to use the Reaper as a weapon but instead found himself as a thrall under its control. His original purpose since cleansed from him and he knew it.
The Geth went with Saren because he had Sovereign.... therefore they could not have shown him where it was. I don't know how he found Sovereign, but it was definitely before he went to the Geth.
These Geth heretics were a small band that chose to leave Geth consensus because they chose to believe that Nazara was the apex of mechanical life, these heretic believed Nazara to be a god and as is the case with the easily impressed; all too easily manipulated believing a lie. In truth Nazara resented the Geth presence and their fawning over it, but the reaper needed their strength to reach the Citadel and after that, it can quickly destroy them when the connection to dark space was made.
From the comments in the mass effect trilogy it's clear that he found Sovereign before he approached the Geth
Which was the icing on the cake to the lie for the easily impressed.
As I understand it, Saren was indoctrinated, even if just a little bit, initially. He was encouraged to believe that submitting to the Reapers was the only viable course for survival.
I dont really see redemption in him considering he murdered a ton of humans just to keep them out of spectors.
He really wasn't that complicated but for the time was a decent villain who lost his way before he became indoctrinated it's not like he would help you even if he survived he would consider you a threat no matter what.
Either way he had to go as Garrus said he is too dangerous to keep alive.
