Can't Launch MELE on Windows 7? Try this fix
Hey everyone!

Much like some other people experiencing the same problem (If you're also running on windows 7 64-bit like me) with the game not opening, this fix may be able to help.

First off, you're probably trying to launch the game through steam or origin and you're getting an error about having to reinstall the game or something like that, you've probably already validated the files but it still doesn't work, this is why.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition was developed to run on Windows 10, although not being a Direct X 12 game, it's listed as the minimum system requirement to get the game running, but for just being an upgrade to visuals mostly. you'd think that the game should launch fine but Bioware has made it a little difficult, not saying it's their fault, it was probably just a development oversight (hopefully)

Some Mass Effect LE players have an artificially limited selection of languages in their original BioWare Mass Effect LE launcher. Which is why when you go to launch the game, it won't work.

There's a mod on the nexusmods website that fixes the problem, as soon as i downloaded it and extracted the file to where it needed to be, i just ran the game through steam like normal and it worked. despite being on Windows 7 and supposedly "Not made for it".

First off, visit the nexusmods page for the mod. if you've never used nexusmods before, it's really easy to set this up and i'll include steps below.

You'll need a nexusmods account before you can download the file.

1. Go to this link - https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectlegendaryedition/mods/46?tab=description

2. Click on the "Files" tab, when it loads you'll see "Main files MassEffectLauncher-MELo"
Select "Manual Download" then "Slow download".

3. Save the downloaded file to where you can access it.

4. Open the folder with a file managing tool like 7zip, and you should see 3 files, MassEffectLauncher.ahk, MassEffectLauncher.exe, and a readme file.

5. Next open up the directory of where you installed your game, just open up steam and right click MELE, go to properties, local files, browse.

Now go to the "Game" Folder, Launcher, and click and drag the MassEffectLauncher.exe from the downloaded folder into the Launcher folder, you will be prompted to replace the file, click yes.

NOW DO NOT CHANGE THE EXE IN ANYWAY, Like changing it to "Run as Administrator" as it is known to cause problems.

Once you've done all that, just run the game through steam or origin normally and you should see the new custom launcher, select the game you wish to play and call me daddy!

I hope this helps people who are having trouble getting past the launcher on Windows 7, it took me awhile of looking through various forums until i found a link to the mod.

Thanks to dvidebyzero for creating this modification, we all greatly appreciate it!

NOTE: You will still be able to grab achievements and track your game time, so don't worry about that! :)

Here is actually how to play ME. Upgrade from Windows 7. Windows is not like a car, it does not become a classic, it does not increase the value. Seriously dude/dudette say goodbye to your Windows XP and 7. It is long past time.

Well by that analogy, a computer with Windows 1 (and yes, Windows initially started with numbers before going for named versions then reverting to numbers) installed would probably be old enough for museums to be interested (especially science or computer museums) meaning it would have some value...

But a Windows 7 computer would be like a car from 2001, meaning it's definitely not a classic.

You don't know the reasons why this or that person might still want to use Windows 7, and yet you are quick to jump in with criticism. Why?
Because they sincerely cannot comprehend. They sincerely believe they're giving people good advice. Can't be helped, I'm afraid.

I upgrayyed myself about two weeks ago. 10 can be made to behave for the most part and ugly parts can be avoided, too. But it is a great deal of bother for non-technical folks or just those not committed enough.

Actually this is not the case. I have an old DOS machine as well as a WIN95 machine. I keep them around for nostalgia reasons. There are a ton of the these out there though and they are worth next to nothing.

Maybe in another 20 years they might go up in value, but I would doubt it.

They only thing that really affects the value is if its a super rare computer. Not necessarily what software it is running.

Thank you for being kind, it shouldn't really be anyone's business as to why someone uses an older operating system, i don't know why the first guy had to be a douche, all i was trying to do was help people get their foot in the door :/

@Jumpscare Myers, no problem, I appreciate you creating this thread - judging by the recent post history about Windows 7, it will prove to be helpful to a decent number of people. So keep on rocking!

Ok, still they will eventually become classics, my underlying point is all that makes a classic car is age..... Time and people throwing stuff away are the only factors... I am surprised a windows 1 computer isn't considered a classic though...

I remember windows 3.5
