Can we make this work on Windows 7? Many people (like myself) still have this OS, and would like to play the game we paid for!

The game does not run on Windows 7 or 8.1 and there is currently no way to make it run.
Seriously, the whole " i dont want to install Windows 10!" was funny for like the first year but its nearly 5 now.
They announced Windows 11 yesterday for gods sake.
You are like 4 OS versions behind and on a OS without security updates at this point.

does it download at all?

if it doesn't download, i bet it will run if you can get the files from a friend orso. probably just steam deciding for you that there is no download available for win7. might still run into verification checks with origin though.

if it does download and still doesn't run, well you can try compatibilty modes etc but you are prolly in a tougher spot.

DirectX 12 is great stuff and matches current console capabilities. I expect game companies will be focusing on it and not spending a lot of time building lower perf fallback mods.

You should have checked the game requirements on the Store Page Before you bought it.

Windows 7 is Old and Obsolete.

There is actually a way to do it, I saw some other Windows 7 guy go off on a rant when he saw someone say they couldn't and explained how (it involves hex editing so jesus christ) and accused everyone else of being ignorant blah blah.

It seems WIndows 7 users are either people who 5 years ago heard that Win 10 was bad and have no clue so stick with it and cannot read game specs, or are crazy super nerds who are clinging on to it now as some sort of badge of honour.

So yeah, just update to Win 10. You want to play the game you paid for? Get the OS it clearly states you need.

To answer your question, here is a way to launch ME1 on Windows 7. I am only quoting this guide, so I haven't tested it myself yet. Bear in mind that this won't help with ME2 and ME3, but I hope more details will follow on them:

11. Save TXT file, close it and rename his file extension to .BAT
12. Make a shortcut of it and start the game.

ME1 Languages (-OVERRIDELANGUAGE= & -language=)
English = INT
French = FR
German = DE
Spanish = ES
Italian = IT
Russian = RA
Polish = PLPC
Japanese = JA

For subtitles, you should try the numbers by your own, i dont play with subtitles. So i don't know which number gives specific subtitle languages!

Don't rush to upgrade, maybe ME2 and ME3 will be playable on Windows 7 too in a few weeks! (around 6 weeks for ME1 since release)

Next time, Windows 10 users shouldn't talk about things they have no idea about. Most of these "IT specialists" were probably never intelligent enough to think of these methods themselves (short, most of users here are only fools and braggart). If many of you call the developers of dxvk or d3d-proton idiots, you really have to be even more limited as you call a Windows 7 user! So now all these Windows 10 "specialists" can claim the forum for themselves again!

All three titles are now playable on Windows 7!
