How to avoid getting raided when using item plating / armor upgrade

So I, like most of us when 1.0 came out, immediately tried using the item plating machine to make objects gold INSIDE my base, only to get swarmed by demons and mutants. And while now I have all the creeper armor I could want I didn't want to fight a horde every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time I tried to use Solafite. So, while it took some effort (and ziplining) I managed to set up shop at the top of the mountain. Yes, the very tippy top of the map where some poor schmuck is frozen setting up DISH network so the Pufftons can watch HBO. I started plating and upgrading....no hordes, no demons, no cannibals, no mutants. So now, not only are you free to craft items horde-free, you can look like Thor getting Mjolnir at the edge of the world. I even tried setting up a Solafite generator because I heard on the wiki it attracts cannibals...still nobody. Well, Kelvin did eventually find me.....

Or you just build it on one of the islands on a lake (when it's not frozen). ^^
