Do you want to play a survival game? Or a psychological horror jank town cannibal murder hobo game?
Why not both also.
Compared to Green Hell which is a very immersive game focused on micromanagement and is no longer EA.
The amount of content for Green Hell to experience and learn is huge in my books . There is the main Story then 3 free Spirits of Amazon DLC.
No comparison.
Suggest you watch some videos.
Value for money atm GH.
It will give you a lot more for your buck.
SOTF is also good
If you're looking for something with a gorgeous island to explore, and lots of fun places to build some stuff out of logs.. and as Ataxio said "cannibal murder hobo game" it can be fun depending on the player. It is in EA currently, and while they've indicated a 6-9 month (if I recall) time that they expect full release, I have my doubts this game will be fully polished and release worthy in that time. They're making a lot of changes (some of which people are having issues with running the game) and being in EA for this game is a bit of its own adventure.
If you're looking for done and lots of content.. I'd say check some vids on GH and if it looks like your jam, go that route and catch this one if it hits an EA sale or after release. If GH doesn't look like your kind of thing, maybe look into this one more heavily. I'm enjoying the EA experience, but a lot aren't at all.
although considering you have the mouse icon for this game, it seems you already decided.
I already own both. I am trying to decide which one to purchase for my sister.
I keep wavering back and fourth because I have not played this one since it came out, and I have barely played GH. GH = Finished / SOF = Not finished but the one I would prefer to play, but it's not finished.
SotF has barely any penalty at all for dying, despite being tense in a co-op(if you let it be). You might be done with it in 4 to 8 weeks or so in the current state, as not much replayability or interesting things after that. I have no idea of how long you might stay interested in GH. Cheers.
Green hell is more survival focused and also more mature because of its age. It's been completed.
SOTF is still in development and more focused on base building.
So why not geting both?
Maybe start with green hell since it's already finished and get SOTF later once it's more polished
If you and your sis haven't played the 1st Forest game, I'd recommend it for both of you. If you have played the 1st and you did a bunch of building, walking and hunting around the island, SotF might be right. If you're looking to follow story and beat the game, its not there yet.
I apologize my eyes skimmed over the "my sister" part. Wouldn't you ask what your sister wants to play? show her gameplay of both and ask which one she thinks she'll enjoy,
I personally turn son of the forest into "lets make this island a paradise" with giant towers and bridge rather then green hells "lets actually just survive"
yet somehow ran every single other game (and this) just fine.
that money back thing is beauty nowadays eh?
SOTF is not ready as a survival game by far, because of missing content and features. It has the potential to be a better TF1 but it is not right now and it will not be in half a year like the devs promised. My verdict is it will be what it needs to be in 2 years, maybe halfway in 2024 already who knows..
My advice as someone who owns, played & enjoyed both is to opt out of both of them and go for an alternative solution.
Try something milder first, but still difficult enough with learning curves etc. , something with fleshed out gameplay that makes sense.
Like Obsidian's Grounded.
If you want minecraft for adults with guns and don't mind Early Access , perhaps 7DTD.
