Why turtle eggs are so difficult to find?
I want to bring out a topic. Turtle eggs.
Turtle eggs are super hard to find, but bring almost nothing to the table. The food itself is very bad, and most people actively search for them to get the FOODIE achievement for eating all foods. Alternatively, it can also be used in 3 recipees: One that warms you a lot, another one who heals a lot and other one who doesn't do really much, just feeds you.
Turtle eggs get laid at any time of the year expect winter (I heard people saying summer, others spring, it's ALL FAKE, I was in fall, no mods or cheats and they did lay eggs in front of me) in specific beaches around the map, the one I found them in, is the one where you find the raft with the pistol.
This highlights the main problem with the balance of food in the game.
If you want to make a balanced food system, you have to make all food very circunstancial and hard to find, but you have to implement A LOT of food. If animals were actually hard to hunt, you would have the player scavenging for berries, eggs, oysters and that stuff, but with meat and fish traps all this gets erased from the equation except if you aim to make stews. All food should be very hard to find, but there should be a lot of different foods to compensate, so eerytime you need to eat, you have to make decitions to see what benefits you the most (All of this while also implementing a late game system like agriculture or rabbit breeding, but expanded, to make sure experienced people with plenty of progress can have a sustainable souce of food).
To put an example, why would you want to put effort in getting a good food item that buffs and satisfies you a lot if with the same effort you can get multiple items that heal and satisfy you less independently, but together surpass the good item. This is the case with turtle eggs for example.
I know food it's not going to get rebalanced or anything, neither turtle eggs, but I just wanted to say: Either make all other food as rare as turtle eggs or make turtle eggs common to find, or at least reliable (make it so you can bump into them in the beach instead of having to go to a specific place in the map, find turtles, wait for them to lay eggs and harvest them).

I don't think you're looking in the right spot. Past the camp with the machete, there is a cannibal camp, I always find turtles there and they always seem to be laying eggs, just have to be patient.
Supposedly they're only available in the springtime, but I've found them the day before winter. Any beach with turtles will spawn turtles that lay eggs. Unfortunately, you need to follow those critters for a bit to see if they'll lay eggs. Some do and some don't. The life raft beach is a good place.

It only takes a few seconds. If you don't snatch up the eggs pretty quickly, babies pop out and head to the sea, Dude Crush style.

If you know where turtles are, you also know where to find their eggs.

Once you found some turtles, show some patience and observe them for a while.

Mark their position on the map

This is not completly true. There are some places in the map where turtles won't lay eggs. I did run tests in creative mode.
Only in certain regions turtles will lay eggs, all turtles can lay eggs in all stations but not everywhere. I have spent 1 hour watching turtles in a beach and they never laid one single egg, and in other beach, they laid eggs literally every 2 minutes.
Anyway, this post was more to complain about the balance of the food in the game, I already stated in the post I did find and used eggs already.

with all the food in the game why does the turtle eggs even matter. I do agree with the amount of food in the game, there's a lot. i use meat and fish about 95% of the time and just fill storage shelves with the other foods. near the end of my games my base looks like a supermarket, it's more for decoration than eating :)

You need them to get the Foodie achievement.

You can also force some to lay eggs.
