Getting started guide
This is not meant to be a great guide but just some pointers that might help getting started with reduced headache and time wasting. A lot of this is off the top of my head. I assume that you would look some stuff up along the way. There are always potential spoilers.

The first thing you want to get is the glider. This vehicle is a game changer and lets you get around most places pretty fast. It takes some getting used to and I assume XBox controller:

* You need to jump off a ledge a good few meters high ideally looking down.
* The axis is inverted.
* You need to always pick it up and stash it with B when landed.
* When stashed it is in the far left communist side of the inventory.
* You can gain height by diving down and then swooping back up.
* You don't seem to take damage when crashing into the ground even at speed.
* Don't crash into a cliff.
* There is a launcher blueprint in a cave somewhere that's quite easy to get as it's a small cave with no enemies if I remember. This is useful to build at beach locations where there are turtles.
* You can also use a spring trap as a launcher though you'll have to do more swooping to gain height.

There are two other vehicles that I know off. These aren't really that useful compared to the glider and are more just for fun. There is some kind of clown monocycle and gold buggies dotted around. The monocycle would be useful if you could stash it but you can't. The gold buggy might be useful to have around your base for defence to run stuff over with but you want to have fairly good space for that.

If you make a small base you can get kelvin to collect stuff for you. This is useful if you build some storage for him to put stuff in. Collecting sticks first is recommended. If you have him follow you around all the time he just gets in the way.

If you build something using a standing stick like a fence or a standing torch you need to reinforce it with stones otherwise it falls over just walking into it.

This starting equipment is really easy to get as it's largely just lying around and easily grabbed:

* Torch
* Binoculars
* Night vision goggles
* Machete
* Modern Axe
* Slingshot
* Pistol

The machete and axe will make getting sticks and logs much easier. I only really use the torch sometimes with the other two vision aids just nice to have. Put down the tarp with a stick to save before going for the pistol in case the shark is there. Once you have the pistol check to see if the shark is circling the boat and if it is just shoot it once in the head.

You can also go to the entertainment bunker early to 3D print a flask and grab some nice arrows.

To get the rebreather I suggest that you just run through the cave past the enemies, grab it and then run back again just avoiding the enemies. You can arguably do this for all of the caves.

There is a progression where you need to get the rebreather then ropegun then shovel. After that you need to get the key cards then you should be able to access everything.

You can mark locations albeit without a label using a GPS locator on a stick. You can use the 3D printer to print the case component.

Circuit boards appear hard to get but are not if you smash radios and dead laptops for them.

I don't think it's possible to get logs into caves to build a full base inside but you an at least put down a tarp and stick to sleep in at night by the entrance inside of many caves just to be able to sleep in instead of your base so you don't get interrupted by enemies at night.

To build a skull light now requires three stones to secure it and a cloth on the stick before putting the skull on as sap is gone. The fly swatter trap is the best thing to use to help secure caves but becomes difficult in the longer caves.

The best lighting for cave exploring is the lighter plus the flashlight attachment. Make sure to get it, perhaps revisiting to get enough to put it on everything.

You should also grab the pickaxe when you can. I haven't used it yet but there is a mining mechanism for upgrading the weapons. There is also a teleporter but I think it requires something special to use it. I think these things are for late game with a bit of a problem because by the time you get them you're likely to have done everything.

The ancient armour cave is a trap.
