Unable to Craft a Fishing Rod
Hey everyone

I'm really enjoying the game, but I feel like there's a missing feature: we can't craft a fishing rod. The fishing mechanic is in the game, but there's no way to craft a rod. It feels a bit unrealistic to only catch fish with a spear or traps, as using a fishing rod would make more sense and fit better with the game world.

Is there a chance that this could be changed, or maybe the rod will be craftable later on? Is anyone else thinking the same way?

How exactly is the fishing mechanic(that you want) already in the game? I think your reasoning is backwards. It's a survival(ish) game so why do you think spears and traps don't make more sense than making a rod that would require bait?

I don't believe there ever will be a way to craft or find a proper fishing rod, it's not really needed anyways. Unless you just want another activity to do cause peaceful immersion.

We already have fish traps, adding rods and more janky animations would be a waste.

One of the best things to have in any survival kit is an auto fishing reel thing to catch fish ...

I think one can tell Kelvin to catch fish maybe DangerousWaste is not aware of this .. it would be cool though if we could fish like we can in Red Dead Redemption 2 ???

Or maybe have a giant Anaconda that comes out of the water and attacks you .. if you fish ..
the spear is a good fishing rod. don't need line, hook, or bait.

Sure, because in survival games, cruising around the island in a golf cart and having helicopters fly overhead are totally normal things, right? Genius-level stuff, really! I mean, what’s the point of trying to survive if you don’t have those extras!

Golf carts were brought there when they were building on the island. Maybe nobody thought to bring fishing gear. The helicopter isn't there to save you. Nothing wrong with wanting this feature but the chances of it happening are slim to none.
I would like a way to get fish when out at sea on the raft. I would be fine with a trap that can hang off the side of the raft instead of a fishing line. I can't see sitting on the island leisurely fishing while a raiding party comes up behind me and clubs my head. But I get why people would want them.

"Yeah, buddy, that's a great idea! When I'm low on resources while out at sea, at least I want to be able to catch something, or even if they brought an update that lets us craft a spear for the game, I’d be happy with that too."

?? You have been able to craft spears since day 1. It's the first thing I craft every game followed buy a crafted bow. BTW, the bow is another fishing tool in this game.
drop a grenade into the water...hehe...

A few alternates would fit in with the survival aesthetic. Fish weirs, cast nets, gorge hooks (made from wood or bone), or an Alaskan fish wheel in deeper moving water.
I don't mean to be that guy, but they already have fishing equipment in the game. Throw log.

We'd need to think about things like not needing to collect sap for torches or skull lamps, yet they magically stay lit forever, or not crafting a lot of BASIC things like the ax, or rope from cloth or vines which they bothered to put on trees, etc...before we expect extra stuff like this for fishing.

Torches and lamps staying lit is part of the island's sorcery, you know, alien magic.
