Lack of Creepy Mutants?

We are almost to day 50, my friend and I, and have a base in a spot that just seems barely noticed by the cannibals. we do have attacks sometimes, but it feels natural for the days in we are at.

But creepy mutants. We have seen a total of 4, maybe, since we beat the game. They were all alone and wandering, not even close to our base. We've seen plenty strung up but I am not counting those.

We had a single Slinky/Catterpillar spawn yesterday, but it was alone.

Whats the deal? Why are there so few mutants? I have seen some people saying they have relentless mutant attacks.
