Kelvin & Virginia AGAIN
So... why is Kelvin AND Virginia eating everything off the drying rack?

I SEALED the stupid things in a base to try to keep them off it. They just fkn poof into the base and start eating.

I'm about to throw rocks and Kelvin until he dies, and i'm going to run Virginia over with a golf cart and push her body into the ocean. Im SO sick of this. 4 drying racks outside. ALL eaten. GTFO

Honestly I have no idea how this many people always have problems with this.
For me they just always eat the little bits of people lying around or berries.

They barely ever touch the racks.

Well, they do 'something' at the drying racks, but do some meat pieces actually disappear? I'm not so sure. Haven't seen this in my case, where the racks are in the open.

Eagles and raccoons, on the other hand, will steal some meat.
So do cannibals if the racks can be reached.

It does sometimes disappear, not always though.
In fact, from experience id say that they dont disappear most of the time.
Honestly making meals in the cooking pot is superior. Cause buffs. Just keep putting that sub par dried meat on the racks for them and make your cooking put stuff for you. Also ♥♥♥♥ Kevin he’s a ♥♥♥♥♥♥

One thing I find odd is that if you use Long days, they eat far more often than on default, while my character needs to eat far less often.

They eat from my drying racks too and meat does disappear, but I wouldn't say it's been much of a problem, not even in Winter.
They don't seem to touch dried meat/fish you've put on a shelf.

You cant put meat/fish on shelves.

hm. I can. I imagine it only works with dried stuff, but it does work.

If the racks are outside, it's not just trash pandas. It's birds, gulls, skunks, etc. Even muddies will steal your food. So put some traps where you know they're going to go.

I learned something new today. Thanks.
Btw.: what to do with burned meat? I don't seem to be able to drop it.

you can put cooked meat on shelves but it will eventually spoil. I haven't had a piece of dried meat spoil on the shelves yet.

Edit, since the last big update you can put golf cart batteries on shelves too.

I was referring to you learning about putting meat on shelves. I don't know if you can drop burnt meat. you can eat it but make sure you have water on hand. lol

Are you really sure it's just them taking it all. If you have any raccoons around your base they could be the culprits. made a base by a lake with a lot of raccoons around and couldn't keep the fish on the racks long enough to dry. Built a 2x2 platform in deep water (about 4 log lengths out) with walls, roof and door and would watch them disappear about 1-5 mins after i put them on. Raccoons don't have to be really close to the racks to get the meat. My bases on the beach i rarely lose anything off of the meat racks...no raccoons.

You don't really need to build any racks in this game, food is very plentiful but i understand your frustration especially early in the game.

Can confirm that every time Virginia eats from the drying rack, one piece of meat will disappear. When Kelvin does, the meat remains. So its just Virginia you need to worry about, then there are raccoons and recently I found skunks also take food from racks too. Seagulls steal food too, eagles may look like they do but the food stays on the rack. I usually have a scare crow placed behind the drying rack for the birds, but the threat of raccoons, skunks, and Virginia stealing from it remains. I have a save with no Virginia and two Kelvins, never had any issues with him taking food, ever. No food goes missing when they eat, I have lots of berries planted for them too.
