Virginia eats all my meat !
She is very nice this Virginia, but she spends her time in my pantry, my meats do not have time to dry !!!

I have to keep adding more to complete the meats that disappear !!!

Before, when my dryers were outside, it was also the birds, or the native "dark scouts", as I call them, who ate my meats, when I leave a door of my base open (I have a lot of doors, and a lot of defense walls...), it can happen in the middle of the day, to cut wood, take care of traps, look for sticks (that's what Kelvin takes care of !)...etc.

I have about 8 dryers, and I only have the value of an entire dryer (6 meats) that have managed to dry for 2 seasons (2x10 days) !!!

I then plan to make a second pantry at the other end of my base hoping that she will not follow me into this 2nd pantry !!!

All this because of Virginia !

Apart from that, I like this game, it is successful, immersive, many "sophisticated" mechanics almost new and relevant (if we observe everything there is in the game...) ...
:)

Yes her and Kelvin can be pesky. One can dry meat in a cave entrance .... just inside and nothing bothers it ... or one of the bunkers ... it takes awhile to dry but it does dry .. I don't put fires under them .. no sure if this does anything anyway... With fish ya gotta put up a scarecrow ..

In fact, while waiting to finish my main house, which will be much bigger, I have a small multi-purpose house where everything is in it, it's incredible to see all that can be put in such a small space: a bed, the drying racks, the fireplace, torches behind the drying racks (no idea if the heat of the torches counts in warming the room or not...?), 5 shelves, racks of firewood, a rack of sticks...etc, all that in a 4x3 house / pantry !

I also don't know if the heat from the fireplace has an effect on the drying of meats, nor if my 2 small windows play a role in the drying... (???)

So, for the fans, I tried them, I had put 3 of them 1 or 2 m from the dryers (2 dryers at the time, fans filled with full armor), it was mainly meats, because I am not very close to a river (I nevertheless have a fishing hut not far from my main base where I put dryers for fish), but in any case concerning meats (not fish, I didn't know that it only worked for fish...!?), the fans did not discourage at all the eagles located in the vicinity of my base...
Consider that she helps you by killing enemies, I would consider her eating some meat to be part of the payment for helping. Think of like this. You have to spend ammo on bullets to kill enemies. She doesn't. Meat is much easier to get. I consider it immersive.

Indeed, this argument is correct ! :)

Agreed. It's a small trade off and basically a barter system of mutual benefit.

She doesn't seem to like fish. I have a bunch of racks with fish on them which remain untouched, but the racks with meat on them are emptied as quickly as I can fill them, so currently I eat fish.
Also - if you place the racks in shallow water then birds don't steal your food. Not sure if it slows the drying process but even if it's slower at least it's still there come winter.

You can lock doors. I hear that this keeps Virginia and Kelvin out, though I did not try this. The lock needs to be on the outside in this case. It would need to be on the inside to lock out cannibals at night. The lock will always be on the smooth side of the door. It seems to be important on which side of the doorframe we stand when constructing the door.

I´ll also check if Virginia ever ate any of my meat. I don´t think so. My dryers are all build in shallow water.

I've never had Virginia or the boy strip the meat off my drying racks, and I almost exclusively use meat instead of fish because the seagulls and eagles do like the fish. Oh, sure, a few pieces of meat will disappear at times, but not much. That said, however, I usually build four or more drying racks, so there's always a lot of meat.

How old is your game save?

Kelvin doesn't eat any meat or fish (he doesn't actually remove the pieces of meat or fish), he fakes it, an animation plays to make it appear as if Kelvin is eating and is fending for himself to survive.

You cannot give any orders to these two characters regarding this subject. The only one who can be given some "basic" orders is Kelvin, but that doesn't concern food.

As for Virginia, she does what she wants, we have no control over her, she eats mostly meat, raw or dried, it's true that I've seen her eat/remove fish from my dryers less often, maybe never !

Locking the doors is useless, my door (the only access) is locked all the time but that doesn't stop them from coming in, Kelvin likes to lounge around next to the fireplace to warm up and Virginia comes in to eat my meat, lie on my bed, sit on a chair or on the floor...etc.

The lock is not used than for the cannibalistic natives.

He does eat meat but he can eat a few times before the meat is gone. Virginia does the same with limbs, eventually they disappear.

Food is too easy to get in this game for this to be an issue imo, Virginia also brings in a lot of meat, squirrels and rabbits. I have not seen her eat fish so keep one rack with fish on it and you're good to go.

All of your meat, all of it? That seems very hard to believe. I've had V take some, actually very little of what i cook and usually i'm cooking a bunch of meat when she does. can't really speak for the meat racks as i hardly ever use them. i stopped using them when the raccoons were introduced.

Less than a week. Too old, huh?

I admit, I exaggerated a bit, but sometimes, she squats in my pantry for a long time because I'm there too or not far, so she takes not 1 but 2 or 3 in a row, it's a bit annoying, but it's not a big deal, I have to get used to it and as someone said, food (meat and fish especially) are very easy items to get...
