Spawn killing in this game...why? whats the purpose?
why is there no spawn protection?

Because if they made it too easy to respawn, then the value or not dying would be lower. Death is something you should be trying to avoid at all costs.

Just bad game design choices. Endnight went with more graphical flair than common sense and great game design when it comes to this game.

It's not no. It's just a way for Endnight to pad some lazy, "Gotcha! Better run again!" kind of 'difficulty' in their game. It griefs a player moreover gives the player an incentive to not die by cannibals. Like yeah OK the cannibals are going to bring us and our backpack back to their camp, but not take everything from our backpack while they're at it? Phoney baloney!

What is this, cat and mouse? "Here's your stuff on the ground. Now cut yourself free. We left a hand free to conveniently reach for your knife we didn't bother to take from you, before tying you up. See if you can escape before we kill you." I mean seriously, they would not search the guy first before tying him to a pole?

It's all so ridiculous, unbelievable and phoney. I know exactly what you mean about the animation. Being dropped in a hostile camp just to pick up the backpack is ridiculous. It was a stupid choice just to pad game time with cheap fear factor. Once I saw him easily whip out I knife and the cannibals not react all I could think is, "this is so pathetically phoney." All immersion was lost at that point.

If it isn't an effective deterrent then why are you complaining about it? There is probably a lot of extra times you'd have died if it wasn't for this.
Its better than dying which happens the 2nd time then ya have to decide do you start the entire game over or do you load up a save...

How many games out there have the only option to load up a save ... ??? Pretty much all of them ..

Red Dead Redemption 2 had a nice option .. redo mission or start from an auto save point in the mission or cancel the mission....

But then perhaps they should have come up with something better - The Forest multiplayer was interesting wherein you had to spawn back at the plane with nothing ..

They should perhaps have you wake up as your being dragged off then the cannibals get attacked by mutants or something then you have to evade out during all the chaos with your backpack already on ... or what left aways back ... woo hooo

I've not changed the way I play because of this. I still die, a lot. Therefore it's ineffective as a deterrent. It is, however, quite effective as an annoyance and irritant.

The purpose is to create the illusion of difficulty and fear by griefing the player. That's literally the only reason to do it the way it's been done.

not sure what you mean by spawn protection, Is it spawning in a cannibal camp after you die? If there are cannibals in the camp that are close to you are you cutting yourself down? I wait till they wander off or get some distance, or i used too. I rarely die in this game now, the super puffys are the ones i have troubles with. Now when i die i just go back to my last save and yes i have lost hours of play but that's the penalty I accept for dieing.

Despite not being in control of your character, like a cut scene, the game doesn't treat it as a cut scene and enemies can attack and kill you while you are unable to respond.

"Spawn protection" would essentially be treating it like an actual cut scene, and not allowing killing damage to be dealt while the game is basically not letting you do anything for a moment.

I haven't run into it much though, since it's not frequent that the place I've respawned was still populated (usually I've cleared it). On the few times I hadn't, I've tried to wait on escaping until they were occupied for a second or wandered away a bit. Haven't been killed like the OP says myself (though I was hit several times immediately after I had control and I had to frantically run from them).

I have been knocked out 3 times. I was put in a cannibal camp twice. Cut myself out no problem. Both times a cannibal was within 5 feet from me. The other time they threw me in the ocean tied up. ran on the beach and they were clearly upset their plan was foiled.

yes, spawn protection would be nice, i just exit the game immediately upon death and reload my last save. the reason i started doing this was 99% of the time i was at my base (on the beach) when i died and it spawned me out in the water half ways out to the life raft. usually it was dark, shark killed me a few times and it was just plain creepy. The trap with the big swinging spiked ball has killed me more than anything else. I would get knocked into it or just not see it, usually at night. no longer a problem in my custom games, now i don't activate traps. I just save often, i don't like losing all the armor i was wearing.
