General Order for a fuller experience
I have mostly only been in the NW and W areas of the map, so please avoid spoilers other than the necessary location descriptions or cover up the spoilery stuff .

I was wondering if anyone was aware of a walkthrough/guide to help you get the full island experience. I have seen the optimal Path guide of:

1. Cave A - Rebreather Cave
2. Cave B - Zipline Rope Gun
3. Cave C - Shovel
4. Maintenance A Bunker - Carl Planter Keycard
5. Food and Dining Bunker - VIP Keycard
6. Entertainment Bunker - Guest Keycard
7. Cave D - Ancient Armor (Formerly Golden Armor)
8. Cave E - Pickaxe and Solafite Ore
9. VIP Bunker

I have done 1 through 6 and currently sitting on a save game somewhere deep in the bowels of the cave in item number 7. I feel like I have some essential stuff now and don't need to push the optimal path after this one (feel free to tell me if I should reconsider).

Is there a progression guide that tries to tackle the very subjective goal of putting all locations in order. Not every single crate and turtle location. But the camps, caves, gps blips, unique or rare item locations, even just a location that is visually awesome and should be seen. There are still a few locations that I have to go through in my Northwest corner, but I have become pretty comfortable sitting atop my island fortress where any place worth going twice gets a zipline highway.

As for the other 80ish percent of the map....zero clue. So it would be cool to have an outline that would help me efficiently see the sites without any fomo because i'm not sure if I checked that meadow before. The interactive map is awesome if you need to find something, but to just go from icon to icon is just bland. Logistically it sucks too because items are needed that you might not have and it uses the assumption that locations geographically close are also close in difficulty.

This vacationers handbook could just be a list of coordinates (if SotF has coordinates), or a map of the island with numbers on all the worth locations.

If the closest thing is the optimal path i wrote above...anyone interested in giving this project a shot? I can handle about 20% of the landmass but it has to be the Northwest. Although I still haven't found the shotgun which is supposedly in my domain so I might not be the best person to partner up with.

TLDR: Where should I go, and when should I go there?

Side question: The Forest had some awesome cave maps online (maybe in game too, can't remember) that I found very necessary. I am striking out with my google kung foo trying to find any map to any cave. At first, I thought maybe they were much more linear in the sequel. I am currently lost in Cave D....possibly under a mountain. There has to be cave maps somewhere right. If not, who would like to take on this project with me at your side........

Endnight made the caves very linear, so maps were deemed unnecessary. In general, with few exceptions, it's hard to get lost in the caves here.

Honestly the game is what you make of it. It doesn't exactly have that sort of 100% completion feeling I think you're looking for. Though I don't have an exact guide for this I guarantee you can find youtube videos for all the various blueprints and while we're at it clothing too. I personally had the most fun getting the blueprints and doing base building, saving the final cave/location for the very end when I had my fill.

When I did my playthrough I had fun finding the "points of interest" such as the yacht or taking out cannibal camps. There is a lake on the map that has a small island in the center and me and some friends had a blast making a lighthouse and cabin there using the zipline gun to help move logs.

See if you can find a vehicle and maybe just joyride a bit until you find something that really stands out to you. The game has lots of beautiful scenery and some special points every so often that really showcase and let it shine. Most of the locations I found by wandering cave to cave or even gathering resources so maybe that will help steer you in the right direction. Follow streams/rivers and look for waterfalls too, they tend to be cool locations. The mountains even have hotsprings which look nice too.

As for maps, I get how you feel. There just aren't all too great of resources at the moment. If I've ever needed a map I just lookup "sons of the forest map genie" and check the top links for a "good" map. Looking for items is trickier and the maps don't seem updated online after full release moved some stuff so stick to newer videos online for those.

Best of luck and I hope you find something helpful in all this.

Contains spoilers. You are correct there is a definite order to the critical places. Here they are 1) Rebreather Cave red laptop & rebreather needed for... 2) Shovel Cave red laptop & shovel needed for... 3) Maintenance Bunker A red laptop & key card needed for... 4) Food & Dining Bunker red laptop & VIP key card neede for... 5) Entertainment Bunker guest key card needed for... 6) Residential Bunker red lap top and unlock Luxury Bunker (final Bunker) door. 7) Cave D rifle cave EAST entrance Ancient Armor & rifle 8) Maintenance Bunker B compound bow & B red lap top needed for... 9) Maintenance Bunker C revolver The rest can be done (and there's a lot) at your leisure.
Hope this helps

Maybe they just need to put a lot more in for our 'scavenger hunt' gameplay. - things which are much harder and take much longer to achieve, with some unusual trickiness involved, and which are much less obvious and takes some detective-work on our part but is also shuffled a bit in some ways so that youtube vids are less helpful (or people stop watching vids for help which ruin the experience).
