clean water using the pot

I've been using the water collectors but now have discovered that they freeze in winter. Have the pot and the flask, but despite following everything on YouTube I cannot get clean water. I light the fire and even used the reinforced method. Put pot on fire. Fire burns out after quite a while but water is still dirty. Dunno if this is because it's winter so flame not powerful enough. I haven't tried this method before winter. No berries around, water is all frozen except the dirty rivers so I've finished up eating oysters. Not Good!

Not sure how it's not working other than being confused on how to boil water. When you boil the water in the pot you have to press the cog/gear to close the lid for it to cook. When the lid pops off,the water is now cleaned

What Cirtos said, but just to elaborate, you effectively need to use the boil water 'recipe'. If the lid isn't on, it isn't 'cooking' and is just sitting there.

Also be aware if you are using custom settings with long days it takes a really long time to come to a boil. Almost as much time as getting a real pot of water to boil.

Ok open your inventory then EQUIP the pot - hold the pot over a pond stream etc. you will see the E key if you see a water droplet do not do this - if you do this you will drink bad water you are seeing this because you need to empty the pot. so empty it then hold the pot over the pond and you will see the E key press and hold this to fill the pot .. .

Now, very important press the G key this removes the pot from your hand and places it back into your inventory it is now filled with dirty water.

next build a fire - if your a pro you have chosen to have sticks have the hotkey 0 for example so assuming your sticks have the hotkey 0 then press O this puts a stick in your hand look down break the sticks to build a fire then right mouse click to NOT add any more sticks now you are there with a stick in your hand you can press the G key to get rid of the stick or you can simply light the fire so best to light the fire when fire is lit you are holding a stick press the i key to get into your inventory again.

Equip the pot again it is filled with dirty water and now your looking at your firer hold down the E key this places the pot on the fire - NOW, move the mouse around over the gear icon which is white it will turn dark and at the top it should be highlighting "Clean Water" at the top of the list Just LEFT MOUSE CLICK and wham it starts boiling the water and the lid is on it

Wait until the lid pops off then press the E key Quick one time this will put the pot in your inventory and it will be filled with clean drinkable water and when you look at it in the inventory it will show you its clean and how much is left in the pot you can also click on drink to drink some of it when in the inventory.

When the water is done and the lid pops off you can take a drink of it by pressing something else that pops up I think before placing it in your inventory. If the fire goes out before its done simply add more sticks and light it - this has happened to me once.


REVIEW:

Fill pot with water in pond put it back in your inventory

make a fire

go into inventory put pot on fire AND hover over gear icon - left mouse click to boil water to make it clean

press E one time quick to put fresh water in inventory

(I would have mentioned the Review first but if your like me even with this info I would have gotten it wrong I need a step by step explanation - still I have not learned how to tie my own shoes )

I keep three pots at each campsite full of Greg soup and such...

And one in the pocket for long treks out in the wilderness.

This game is VERY SHORT.

One can complete the story line in one day or less - not even using cheats or online maps if you land in the correct spot it's all streamlined.

Multiplayer bug. Also you still can add quarter half logs to the fireplace and it won't burn out for hours (ingame ofc)

MP seems to have a lot of bugs. :O

Now I wonder if this is strictly for internal served games or is it for dedicated hosted games as well or vice-vesa.

Perhaps I will run a dedicated server and check if I have the time...

Something with synchronisation between players, probably.
There are also bugs with drying racks and spoiled food in MP, so don't be surprised. It's better to have multiple pots in that case because once your firecamp burns out the pot stand disappears and it falls to the ground resulting it to despawn after a while since it's considered as drop item.

So that explains the missing soup once the sticks are wiped/used up in the fire...
