By moving. Dodging means moving. Sideways, backwards, etc. You just have to practice with your moving.
When you are out there in the forest, seemingly cannibals hate any type of water unless provoked.
I can stand there in shallow water they will either look at me, run away, or attack if close enough. I can get nose to nose within 1 meter with some cannibals
Fun Fact: Cannibals cannot swim.
The melee combat system is crude and wasn't expanded upon from the first game. A dodge mechanic would have been a good addition to the combat system in SOTF, but they ignored improving upon it in favour of bang bang pew pew gun play. SOTF is a very checklist composed game.
There's lots of wasted potential with this game and when I say lots, I mean a hell of a lot of wasted potential.
