It seems the game punishes you for having a base now. I was sinking way too much time and effort into a base that was constantly being harassed. I made way more progress by living on the road. It sounds stupid, but with the building restraints the new game has compared to the original, you are better off going nomad.
Funny thing - most recent game I didnt build right away for the first time. Just went around whole island on the beach with a unicycle. Had a maxed out full on everything inventory with full armor multiple sets different types and almost zero cannibal encounters by the time I settled in to build. I mean I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FULL on everything and maxed health zero threat zero ♥♥♥♥♥ given living. Settled down to build base and watched it all slowly fade away after wave after wave of cannibal attacks.
Funny anti-symmetry. Even food and drink levels seemed to barely degrade when I didn't stop moving. Just seemed like full on everything all the time mode.
At the beach spawn point (by the rebreather cave), the far rocks at that beach peninsula has tape, rope, food, and energy drinks. From there go around the bay (to the left when looking at that cave) all the way to the far, far side and you'll find some kayaks and a camp with tape, ammo, a machete, a pot, and a bunch of other stuff. If you save there and exit, then reload, the game will spawn the tapes back in at those two locations. There are other places like this, but it's pretty handy here.
I feel the opposite. Armor has had a huge boost in resilience since the early EA phases.
bone armor is kinda weak somehow
The game might be marked as full release 1.0, but it's basically an Early Access game outside of Early Access, pretending to be a full, complete, polished and well rounded game.
This was the case in the 1st game too.
I first finished the game and then re-loaded an earlier save to mess around and build bases.
haha yes thats my tape income right now. Farming skin pouches from those that attack my base and get hit by the golf kart. but its only 1 tape per pouch,
needing tape was kind of a bummer, it was nice in the original where you could proceed through the caves and burn the bodies as you go and armor back up.
I hate that they removed creepy armor from some of the small guys too
