armor
looking for some tips here to be honest.
after a VERY challenging expedition around the island, i decided to go 'home' and continue building my base.
As im building, i get attacked lots. i kill them, burn them and collect their bones.
ive got hundreds of bones in storage for some bone armor, but no tape to actually MAKE the bone armor.
Any forest freaks out there that have some 'safe' tips to get a bunch of tape?
i have no armor at this point, and running low on meds too, so i dont want to make my trip for tape too dangerous.

I left my base a long time ago and now live the nomadic life lol. I was in the same situation as you, couldn't get enough tape/rags. Now I just run every cannibal over in the golf cart whilst clearing Caves, Mining camps and other POI. I have armour in reserve, countless tape and rags.
It seems the game punishes you for having a base now. I was sinking way too much time and effort into a base that was constantly being harassed. I made way more progress by living on the road. It sounds stupid, but with the building restraints the new game has compared to the original, you are better off going nomad.

isnt that crazy? for a game that has so many good building options? that even rewards you with blue-prints to BUILD things in our base, after you lived like a nomad and explored those caves? i did a full circle around the island for a few days and felt undergeared at places, wich is why i returned home.

hmmm yeah definitely seems counter productive at times. Build base to protect against cannibals... base building attracts hordes of cannibals. Fight cannibals to make bone armor... fighting them ruins bone armor.

Funny thing - most recent game I didnt build right away for the first time. Just went around whole island on the beach with a unicycle. Had a maxed out full on everything inventory with full armor multiple sets different types and almost zero cannibal encounters by the time I settled in to build. I mean I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FULL on everything and maxed health zero threat zero ♥♥♥♥♥ given living. Settled down to build base and watched it all slowly fade away after wave after wave of cannibal attacks.

Funny anti-symmetry. Even food and drink levels seemed to barely degrade when I didn't stop moving. Just seemed like full on everything all the time mode.

You can "farm" tape from several locations. Here's one...

At the beach spawn point (by the rebreather cave), the far rocks at that beach peninsula has tape, rope, food, and energy drinks. From there go around the bay (to the left when looking at that cave) all the way to the far, far side and you'll find some kayaks and a camp with tape, ammo, a machete, a pot, and a bunch of other stuff. If you save there and exit, then reload, the game will spawn the tapes back in at those two locations. There are other places like this, but it's pretty handy here.

The armor sucks in this game. Especially after the update that you can not get creepy armor anymore from pale ones.

I feel the opposite. Armor has had a huge boost in resilience since the early EA phases.

It does feel to me that base building is intended to be only after completing the story

Have you opened all your skin wallets? They can have tape.

Quit base building and live like a nomad. Armour is very unbalanced in this game and thus defending your base becomes a lost cause. It's a never ending drain on resources. Enemy spawning is out of control and thus it makes defensive resources deplete quickly. That's the only way you're going to stop getting tapped on armour resources.

The game might be marked as full release 1.0, but it's basically an Early Access game outside of Early Access, pretending to be a full, complete, polished and well rounded game.

Actually it is ironic that the game is motivating you to ignore base building and if you want to go through the story then the game should be played without a base and just go from cave to cave.
This was the case in the 1st game too.

I first finished the game and then re-loaded an earlier save to mess around and build bases.

haha yes thats my tape income right now. Farming skin pouches from those that attack my base and get hit by the golf kart. but its only 1 tape per pouch,

I always build a base to store extra loot, and I always build the base in shallow saltwater where the natives and mutants won't go. I just wade out from the beach to the point where I can lay down a log, then build toward the beach from there. Your supplies will be safe and, if you build a balcony, you can sit outside sipping vodka while you watch the critters dance in frustration trying to get at you.

needing tape was kind of a bummer, it was nice in the original where you could proceed through the caves and burn the bodies as you go and armor back up.

I hate that they removed creepy armor from some of the small guys too
