If they wanted people to use other light mechanics, they really shouldn't have added it to the game to begin with. They need to completely overhaul them, either move them to a later game thing you find, but gives full use as NV goggles should, or keep them where they are, make them fully usable, but you can't see your GPS, and maybe they burn through batteries twice as fast as the flashlight. That should be enough.
I have not tried them out on the world though, just once or twice in caves hoping for the best.
The only use they have is outside, in the pitch black nights, you can KINDA see, it's better than a flashlight there, but if these were compared to a real pair of NV goggles, these are only working at like...15 to 20% capacity, it's super weird, it's some of the worst NV goggles I've seen so far in a game.
