Cooking pot mechanics are dumb
Why does the cooking pot need to fall off after the fire burns out completely? It's on stands, it shouldn't fall off. Also in order to put it back on we need to pick it up, put it in the inventory, then rebuild the fire, light it up, then put the cooking pot back on the fire and reselect clean water EVEN IF it's ALREADY CLEAN....IT'S DUMB.
Also the fact that we can only drink from it when the fire is lit is again DUMB, there is no need to relight the fire just to drink from it. The only way to drink from it with the fire out is to pick it up, drink, then put it in the inventory, then relight the fire and then put it back on AND select clean water AGAIN if it if's already clean... DUMB

Please change all of this so the pot never falls off the fire after it burns out and so that we can drink from it even with the fire being out

I've left pots on the fire for days (fire burns out) while away from camp exploring, and come back to them still on there.
Are you just building simple stick campfires and relighting them without restocking the sticks, thus causing the mostly-charred remaining sticks to be destroyed shortly after?

Reason I ask is that I've legitimately not had a pot fall off a campfire for several playthroughs, and I can't help but wonder if you could avoid it by simply keeping your campfires fed and better yet, to get more burn time, build reinforced campfires/a fireplace, and remember to chuck firewood on them.

Cooking pots despawn after some time if they're fallen on the ground. Basically when your fire runs out completely, the pot falls off because it's stand disappears. If you sleep your fire camp runs out even faster, so if you are away from your base and sleep like twice - your pot will be despawned.

To avoid that it's better to make a shelf near your fire camp and put your pots on it after cooking. You can also have multiple cooking pots at your base.

Its what they could do with their asset packs they bought and dumped into the game.

Sure, all items despawn if they've been interacted with then left on the ground (eg: you were full on an item you tried to collect from a box, or threw an item from your backback on the ground), but that's not what we're talking about.

My point, again, is that I have not had a pot fall off the fire for several playthroughs because:

- I keep my fires fed (add more sticks or firewood as pieces burn out) when I'm actively around them

- When I'm away for long enough that the fire goes out (yes, i've been several days away from base, slept, etc), when I come back the pot is still sitting there perfectly fine atop charred sticks, I feed the fire the fresh sticks and firewood it needs before lighting it again

If you simply relight a fire that is just 2 charred sticks instead of feeding it more sticks and firewood first, yes, it's going to burn out completely in a matter of seconds and be destroyed (this is actually a convenient way to dispose of unwanted or poorly placed campfires); this is the only case where a pot should fall off.

Even a basic stick campfire will not fully destroy the first time the fire burns out; it will leave behind the charred sticks so that you can either feed it again (what you should do if you intend to keep it) or just reignite it (you should expect it to destroy very soon after, because it's just charred sticks).

Therefore the only reason I can surmise that OP's pot is falling off (barring a rare bug i'm yet to encounter), is because he isn't feeding more sticks/firewood into it before relighting it.

I actually agree. Having the pot never fall off seems like a good idea.

Singleplayer or multiplayer? In my SP game I've noticed that nothing will despawn around my base (except corpses) until I reload. The only things that have gone missing have been fresh fish on the ground and fresh body parts, but that's because birds swoop in and steal them.

Also agreed, just for the record. I can totally understand the gripe, but if one takes care of their fires (and doesn't try to relight charred sticks without feeding it fresh sticks and firewood) it simply shouldn't be falling off in the first place.

Singleplayer. I don't play MP since it's filled with cheaters.

I noticed few times my pots were despawned when I was walking outside my base. The problem is they've added the stand for the pots so they don't float over the fire, but forgot to make it stand when the fire is out. Your pot will be despawned after some time if it's on the ground along with the other items that you drop, even thrown spears and arrows despawn pretty quick.

You can check it by dropping a pot and go for a walk on the other side of the map and sleep few times. When you make a firecamp with log quarters it will burn forever, unlike the regular fire with sticks. When you sleep multiple times it also skips time for the burning fire, so it will be run out and the pot will be on the ground until it despawns. I have no idea how long does it take to drop to despawn, but I assume it's like 5-10 minutes.

This must be a single player only issue then, my runs are always multiplayer in case friends decide to drop in.

Yeah, maybe that's the case. Some things in SP and MP work different.

Yes I am building simple stick campfires, and not restocking the sticks. My point in this discussion is even if I don't restock the sticks, it shouldn't fall off and be so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tedious to use it. There is no need to relight the fire just to drink already clean water, there is no need to relight the fire just to put it back on after you taken it to drink from it...
