How do you feel about the shotgun nerfs?
So from what I understand patch 1.0 introduced 2 major nerfs to the shotgun with one very minor buff.

1. Shotgun damage halfed.

2. Buckshot maximum ammo reduced from 15 to 8.

3. Prior to 1.0 the ability to use the laser sight was removed from the shotgun.

The only buff was that buckshot scatter cone reduced by about 20%.

Put together these are pretty seriously hard nerfs. Especially if you are playing with reduced ammo and items respawning in containers off. I am not sure how to feel about these nerfs yet though.

It's funny because shotguns in video games have gotten much better in recent years. The shotgun in this game already felt weaker than it should, which is a sentiment I also hold about ALL of the firearms.

Not the only buff. Slug ammo now sends all armored enemies to the ground, before it would only do that to cannibals with no armor.

Wow I ended up ranting a bit. TL;DR Guns should probably be made better a bit.

Generally, I found how weak guns are (even after "upgrading" them) to be a bit of a problem. At the same time though, SOTF has really bizarre combat.

It seems to me that the intended use of guns or really ranged weapons at all is to get headshots that result in a knockdown so you can do whatever the charged downwards finisher is for your melee weapon of choice. They wanted you to make use of several weapons at any given time but I don't think making guns laughably weak was the way to go.

Base encampment traps tear up enemies laughably fast. That spinning meat grinder blueprint you can find can kill higher tier mutants in literally two seconds if you can get them to walk into it.

The shotgun does all right damage if you can aim with the slugs I guess? Some of the bigger mutants should definitely be at least a bit beefy but I don't think it's insane to ask for the revolver to one-tap a basic Puffy if you can hit their head (even the "upgraded" revolver doesn't do it.)

Does the upgrade system actually improve guns in 1.0? I have only found a pre-1.0 video where it doesn’t.

Yea. Tbh I am not a huge fan of these nerfs. Maybe they nerfed the shotgun to encourage using other weapons more often?

Just make the ammo more rare then. Don't make the weapon useless!

Just make the ammo more rare then. Don't make the weapon useless!

I feel like this is good time to use SOTF edit to undo these changes.

Did they really nerf shotgun? I playing super hard soo got used to beefy enemy but like I killing new 1.0 mutant with whole 8 buckshot is about right

I don't recall seeing it in the patch notes, but farket said they halfed the damage of the shotgun.

I was hoping that they would add more guns. Like maybe someone could toss me an assault rifle or a flame thrower during that final boss battle...

Honestly, from a balancing perspective, the shotgun needed a nerf. It was pretty OP.
fun but OP

Every time i wandered around along with Virginia, she already killed the enemies wih it, before I was even able to shoot at them ^^
so it kinda made sense

Im also fine with removing the laseer pointer from it. It's pointless for a shootgun anyway, since they aren't exactly know for their precision over long distances.
flashlights fit better to it

Are you talking about the regular rifle? If so I don't really consider that to be a proper sniper rifle. It makes too much noise when attacking with and doesn't have a lot of useful additions modern sniper rifles have.
