Do they work? Aren't they supposed to keep cannibals away? We have like 10 effigies but they still come to the base with groups of 5 to 10

No clue. I have three and not much has changed.

I have noticed the enemy building a new effigy near my base very day. And it's unsettling.

I have. Every day I sleep, another effigy pops up near my camp. And I respond by putting heads on spikes. So we're going full Lord of the Flies right now.

I'm talking about effigies the player builds, not the effigies the cannibals build. I've built effigies, but they don't seem to deter the cannibals from attacking.

To my knowledge, they only keep the "dirty" cannibals away. Specifically, skulls on a stick do--you can also equip a skull in your hand and scare away muddies with it. The freeform effigies I have no clue.
