Loot Respawn Should Come Back
I realise you can do it on custom but I've got hours in a hard world already and tbh, custom mode shouldn't just be a 'fix the game yourself' mode.

I completely understand not wanting to make boxes on the surface respawn loot as it's easy to exploit. However having it spawn back underground would give a good insensitive to go caving, especially when you've already completed the story. ATM there really seems little point to going back, especially on hard. If the enemies respawn, so should the loot. It's risk-reward.

I want the containers loot back too! I have 170+ days on my multiplayer "Normal" mode and have no interest in making a new save just to make a custom game. Why would anybody change that setting mid-game?! If I wanted my containers to be single-use only I would have make that before even starting. New games? Okay, you can set that on default for them so everybody has a choice, but those already existing saves? That's crazy..
I would love if there was an option to change the settings mid-game, even for those non-custom ones (like mine).

Glad that it's an option now but I always thought that they could've (and should've) found a way to make item spawns fit with the game more organically. Like you said, caves having specific locations with bundles of loot that respawn every few days to incentivise "dungeon crawling" in the caves with enemies that respawn to guard them. Or crates of items washing up on shores in random locations, maybe even air drops since we have helicopters flying all over the island now.

Considering all the push back they got from doing this way earlier in the patch cycle I'm surprised they just snuck it in the 1.0 release.

Diddnt bother me too much since the spirit of the game revolved around multiple playthroughs as opposed to a single long running file.

I have made so many new games i don't even care ..... i already have over 800 hours in the game hehe

i made so many different combos of custom mode playing around its fun you should try it and not get stuck on some old save ....

Things just laying on the ground outside of containers DO still respawn though, don't they? Still pretty easy to stockpile loot that way.

You can either edit the GameSetupSaveData.json file;
Changing difficulty to custom and enabling loot container respawning.
Or you can try the Save editor tool;
https://github.com/codengine/SOTFEdit

I have not used it myself, got this from reading other posts.
Hope it works for you until the option to edit settings mid game is added.

Yeah ive got cases respawning just take from your saves what you need into a brand new custom game ie inventory, bases etc. I also changed my crash site to woodland.

have to disagree there. The games building mechanics, the ability to connect bases with ziplines, the gigantic map all point (at least for me) to long playthroughs

kinda hard not to be stuck on a save when you've invested so many hours with friends who would also not want to shift save

yes but i'd say certain items are tricky. Grenades, ammo, c4 bricks. But like I said, kinda makes caving pointless at least with some of them were there are more crates than there are ground loot

Did the save editor end up working?
