Do all the resources respawn over time?
As in the title, I'm talking about duct tape, cloths, booze, painkillers, etc. Do they all respawn in cases and caves? Or should I find a way to stockpile everything I find in my base?

They all respawn when you reload. Boxes do as well by default but you can disable that in the custom game settings when starting a new game.

No need for storage even. Find a spot that's lit with loot, take the loot, save, reload the game and rinse and repeat until you have as much as you want / need. No need to build. The game is by default, a loot exploit by design.

Or you could just open the dev console and spawn in what you want. I mean if a player goes through all that effort to cheat themselves out of the fun then that's on them imo. It makes no sense for the devs to try and restrict players from "cheating" because if that's what players want to do, they'll find a way. Trying to stop them would be a waste of the developers time.

I mean what's the alternative, disabling loot respawn all together? Wont be making much armor, wont be using all those pretty new guns that often either, wont be making all those bombs or traps or anything really. People like to play long games building huge projects, if loot were finite those games would get pretty stale eventually.

I'd agree with you to some extent if there was an exploit in game that was tempting you but if you're going to go through the effort to load the game a bunch of times to cheat, that blame can't be put on the devs.
Yes, but they may patch that out in 1.0. I actually hope they do. Would be more realistic and make the game even that more challenging.

I know. Of course opening console would make more sense in that situation. I was just making a point that loot isn't an issue for this game. It's abundant in almost every possible way imaginable. I'm not blaming the devs. I'm just pointing out loot isn't any kind of shortage and that building isn't necessary to store loot.

It's all about user restraint and how they want to play the game they purchased.

I hope they do as well. Would make more sense from a default 'survival' game design perspective. But, then some people would dislike it and demand there be an option put in the game settings to enable loot respawn on game reload. It's a never ending cycle with this game's community. XD

I'd hope for it to be optional as well. I think that's what survival hard mode should be for. To give all the people who want survival first and foremost the option, without having it forced on the rest of us. I like a bit of survival don't get me wrong but if my character is huffing and puffing and walking at a snails pace after 5 steps and I can't find anything to loot, I'd get bored real quick.

I know. We're in all inclusive times. I remember when games were just games that targeted specific groups of people to maximise the experience to cater to those types of gamers. Nowadays, that's rarely the case anymore if ever. Everything now has to appease everybody, be diverse and all inclusive - even if it means sacrificing things that IPs were founded and grounded upon, that made those IPs remarkable among their target audience. These days - it's all different. Every game must appease every crowd nowadays.

SOTF has become a checklist game similar to that of a grocery list.

Oof, don't mix me in with that crowd lol, them is fightin words!

I'm just saying The Forest has always been more "survival lite" than hardcore survival. I mean the first thing I got to working on in The Forest was my blueberry farm and after that, survival was a thing in the past in that game. Even after they nerfed blueberries to where you could only harvest them a few times, you had to go get the occasional fish or two every now and then at best so there wasn't much survival going on there either.

There are many things I'd improve upon in this game and some of that could include some survival elements like having to prepare for the winter because the changing seasons offer a perfect opportunity for such things, but I wouldn't go all out like Green Hell. Even 7DTD annoys the crap out of me because the character moves like an obese guy pushing 60 who has to eat the equivalent off a horse every day to survive. So balance is important, there's a thin line between survival and complete boredom and many developers have a hard time finding that balance. That's why some options are always good.

No worry. I wasn't finger pointing at you lol. All good. I agree. Options are good, but at the same time, where does the line get drawn?

Balance is the entire problem in most survival games and it's usually to do with loot or survival mechanics themselves being too much out of balance and thus, it prompts floods of user responses requesting game options to control the imbalance. Can these companies all do better with their balances? Absolutely, but a lot of times they just don't. It's just poor game design in general that leads to demands for so many options, but hey, that's just my opinion on the state of the industry as a whole when it comes to most survival labelled games.

@OP you can build a base to store stuff if you want, but it's purely optional. Because loot respawns regularly with default vanilla settings, there's no need to stockpile loot unless it's something you want to do for fun. If you play a game with custom settings, you can control how loot spawns which puts the ball in your court to play with however you see fit.

Unless you change in it in custom settings for a new game, then yes loot respawns. It all depends on your play style though, if you wanna live somewhere more isolated then definitely stockpile, if you wanna live near a spot for certain item spawns or just roam nomadically with no base, then don’t bother. I’d lean more towards finding at least somewhere to stockpile because having a food/clean water stockpile is always useful alongside certain items like ziplines.

they wont do that. they never removed it from the first game either. so keep dreaming about that 1.0 that will end up beeing the final disappointmend before this game will slowly fade away from beeing noticed.

Indeed.

Just as all those that came before it.

This is the way.
