Remember he has his own stamina and hunger and thirst levels he needs to maintain. I keep lots of berry bushes, and limbs on the drying rack for him and have him take breaks most of the time, then when I need him to help me he is more than happy to help.
The "thought" system is to blame here. If chairs, benches, food or fire is too close to him he will get stuck inside a loop. Thats why hes not doing what youre asking him to do. He will try to get to the player or do the task, but gets overwritten, ive seen it happen way to often on my own playthroughs. I think thats a thing the devs need to look into, the AI system needs a bit of tweaking! Also try getting into his mindset; he is injured by the crash, possibly high on painkillers, scared because he cant hear and speak, and at the same time madly in love with the players charakter! Give the poor soul a break!
Exactly! Gotta treat him well and he will be more helpful. He does remember how the player treats him, so if you purposefully hit him, he is going to remember that. He will be less helpful since he will be upset with the player for a bit, he will feel better after a while, but if he is still constantly hurt by the player purposefully, he is not going to be willing to help you.
