Cave monsters are Never worth fighting.

as the title says, they just aren't. They reward is too little for the greater risk.
The reward from killing them is just a single or sometimes 2 pieces of creepy armor. Its a good piece of armor. However, that is pretty much instantly used up when you are smacked once by just one of the skinny pale guys running around on all fours. They are pretty much always in groups and are crazy aggressive they are damn relentless.
Dont even get me started on the other mutants like the conjoined spidery one or the fingers.
You don't have much means of fighting them either. fighting them melee? straight up death sentence. Bow and arrow is pretty much the only way to go on them. They soak up arrows like crazy, they can be straight up a pin cushion and still attack you. EVEN THEN YOU CAN'T EVEN WIELD A BOW WHEN YOU USE A FLASHLIGHT. JUST MAKE THE FLASH LIGHT HANDS FREE! You know, those ones that you can just clip on to your chest or head even?
You're best bet is to stick to using the night vision goggles. its only after MUCH exploring where you find the flashlight attachments for the pistol and shotgun. You're better off just running past them really. Its what I did almost every time.

Actually they're all too easy. Most can be kited or easily cheesed. Despite them being able to hit ridiculously hard, they are also ridiculously easy to manipulate and murder. Once you learn their AI behavioural pattern, it's way too easy. Once you've got guns, it's even easier. Game is too easy.

Stopping to fight isn't worth losing your armor.

Creepy armor gives you the best protection, but mesh armor is only slightly behind it. After getting the rebreather, rope gun, and shovel, I don't spend time in the caves. I get all the creepy armor I need from the mutants that attack my crib.

I should mention that headshots are great, when you land one on a skinny in a cave its pretty satisfying. I hate their patterns because they constantly run, roll and just flop around wildy. its hard getting a good shot on them. Can you give a breakdown on how to control their pattern?

Fun the first time, but since the caves are ridiculously one way and pointlessly long then yes, just speedrun.

You lose a lot when you screw up but mostly they're quite easy. The fingers mutant is easy when you figure out to aim for the knee first. One arrow to the knee and a couple of hits with the axe while they're immobile works for me.

making other types of armour is expensive, so i prefer fightin mutants.
